David Ortiz recently stated that if he were part of the Houston Astros management, he would sign Valdez to a 10-year contract “right now”. This is how he said it, “To be honest with you, if I am the Houston Astros, I would give the guy a 10-year deal right now, right now, right now. Here go and pitch, because he loves the game. He loves pitching. He wants to be good.”

The fact that David Ortiz, a Cooperstown resident, has spoken up about Valdez’s talent only solidifies the pitcher’s place as one of the best in the league.

Valdez etched his name in Major League Baseball history by recording his 25th consecutive quality start, a new single-season record. A pitcher records a quality start when they throw at least six innings, allowing only three earned runs or fewer. This speaks volumes about his talent. His love for the game is evident every time he takes the field. It’s no surprise that the Red Sox legend has recommended that Houston Astros sign him to a 10-year contract.
