

Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez recently took to Instagram. He posted a throwback highlight reel from his Seattle Mariners days; where he won one million dollars for a fan. The New York Yankees icon once played for the Seattle Mariners from the year 1994 – 2000. A World Series title winner with the Yankees, ‘A-Rod’ won many accolades creating records in a 12-year comradeship with the champion franchise.

When one’s gains also benefit the other
In 1997, Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez became the first-ever Seattle Mariners player to hit for the cycle against the Detroit Tigers. The Mariners went on to win the game, defeating the Tigers by a 14-6 margin in nine innings. The ultimate beneficiary of Rodriguez’s feat was a fan, who in turn won a million dollars because of Rodriguez’s heroics.

The prize winner was Pamela Altazan from Washington. She participated in a contest filling up an entry form for a shot at winning one million U.S. dollars if a Mariners player hits for the cycle. Luckily for her, ‘A-Rod’ entered the record books on the night for that extraordinary play. The Million Dollar Magic Promotion was run by the company Promotivation, which lined up sponsors to fund the money.
