Monday night was all about the Detroit Tigers lighting up the diamond with towering home runs. In their win over the White Sox, they didn’t just dominate, but entertained. However, one moment stood out above the rest— a jaw-dropping catch that left the fans awestruck. The night was surely about the Tigers’ slugger Kerry Carpenter, who stole the spotlight with three home runs. But Dillon Dingler and Zach McKinstry’s heroics were also not far behind.
In the fifth inning of the game, Dingler and McKinstry chased after a foul ball that was popped up by the White Sox’s Joshua Palacios near the dugout. As catcher Dingler slid in to make the grab, he just missed it. The ball glancing off his glove went back toward an unsuspecting McKinstry, who somehow managed to hold the deflected ball and complete the out.
Once McKinstry realized what had happened, all he could do was stand there and laugh. It was a moment that even the fans in the stands took time to realize. But hey, all’s well that ends well.

The event highlights the utility of Dingler behind the plate, but his offense is also making a mark this year. Currently, Dingler boasts a .296 BA, with 6 home runs and 24 RBIs. That sums up the value he is creating for the Tigers this year.
Keeping the individual heroics aside, the Tigers absolutely cruised past the White Sox with a dominant 13-1 victory, securing their 7th win in the last 8 games and improving to a 40-21 record in the season.
While it’s still only early June, Detroit is making a serious early push in the American League. If the team keeps pulling off plays like Monday night’s foul-ball catch, there’s no telling how far this Tigers team could go come October.
What’s your perspective on:
Are the Tigers the new Globetrotters of baseball with their jaw-dropping plays and team spirit?
Have an interesting take?
Meanwhile, the X handle of MLB is getting flooded with fans sharing their sentiments after the Tigers absolutely steamrolling the White Sox, playing an entertaining brand of baseball.
Fans can’t keep calm after what the Tigers have done
The fans tried to recall the last time they were entertained this much on the field. “The Globetrotters,” wrote a fan. Could the Tigers’ yesterday’s act be compared to that of the Harlem Globetrotters?
Well, the Globetrotters are the pioneers in blending their basketball skills with comedy and entertainment, but the Tigers’ antics might not be far behind. Not quite on par with what the Globetrotters do. But it wouldn’t be wrong to call yesterday’s moment between Dingler and McKinstry the ‘Globetrotters‘ moment of the 2025 MLB.

“THEY ARE DOING TRICK SHOTS. The SavBananas,” wrote another fan. Now that comparison is a bit more apt. The Savannah Bananas are known for their funny antics and showmanship on the field. The Tigers might have taken a leaf out of their book.
While technically a baseball team, the Savannah Bananas have completely reimagined the sport to turn it into what they call Banana Ball. It’s basically a fast-paced version of the game filled with stunts, showmanship, and viral moments.

“Team effort,” a netizen wrote. Yes absolutely! So, what made the catch remarkable wasn’t just the lucky bounce. It was how both players were locked in and ready to make a play. While Dingler’s hustle to track down a tough foul ball showed his commitment, McKinstry’s awareness and positioning paid off. Now, that kind of backup mentality, where every player is involved in every pitch, is the hallmark of a well-connected team. The Tigers proved that.
One fan commented, “Catch of the year.” Well, we are not sure. While the catch yesterday was spectacular, we got a few more such antics this year, and more are about to come. Remember, the Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho’s extraordinary behind-the-back catch against the Red Sox? That was not a team effort, but it surely showcased agility and quick reflexes. So, it might be too early to conclude on the catch of the year.
“Of course it’s against the White sox lmao,” wrote another fan. Now that’s something to think about. With every team performing well against the White Sox, it might just be too late for them to turn the tables this year. Last year was terrible for them as well, as they got the tag of a team with the most losses in a season (41-121). This year, they might go beyond that. Their latest loss against the Tigers dropped the White Sox to 18-42 in the season, marking their seventh defeat in the last eight games.
