‘If I go down, I’m taking you with me.’ This is the mentality some baseball fans believe that Alex Rodriguez followed in his twenty-two seasons in MLB. Putting up excellent stats in the league, everyone had high hopes for the former New York Yankees player. But then he was introduced to the pressure of playing in the majors where one could either go big or go home.

Never one to give up easily, A-Rod chose a different path to success with performance-enhancing drugs in the early 2000s. While 2001-2003 is the official timeline of drug usage, many believe the exact dates are murky. The retired slugger apologized profusely when the allegations came to light in 2009. But then, in 2014, trouble came knocking again.

The media extensively covered Alex Rodriguez and other players’ involvement in the Biogenesis Scandal. Not only is cheating a huge no-no in the sports world, it was the second time A-Rod’s name had come up. Fans were livid, the Yankees were furious, and Rodriguez didn’t quite know what to do. MLB handed down the league’s longest-ever suspension to the former slugger, the entirety of the 2014 season put on hold.

When the authorities decided to investigate, A-Rod was naturally reluctant to give up information at first. However, according to documents obtained by ESPN, the ballplayer had given up the names of two more players related to the scandal. One was Manny Ramirez, while the other was an unnamed MLB All-Star.

In a past that seems long forgotten, things have been stirred up again. But revisited memories are not always pleasant. After he came back from his suspension, Rodriguez almost had a new personality. Humility, especially if it could be turned into hilarity, was his preferred method of dealing with people. But it seems to be backfiring now.
