The Toronto Blue Jays are on top and at the thick of the playoff race. So, you’d think that would be the biggest storyline for the clubhouse, right? Well, it turns out it’s not about just the wins and losses now; it’s also about who really gets to step on the field. And at the center of this debate is none other than Davis Schneider.

So, the mustached player can’t seem to crack the lineup, no matter how hot his bat has been. On Jay’s Digest, the host made it clear, “It’s like no matter what Davis Schneider does, he doesn’t get put in the lineup. With all due respect to Giménez, his glove is awesome, but it’s insane…. Put David Schneider out there. He’s proven time and time again this year that he’s elite.” Now this is a fair point, because in just 178 plate appearances, Schneider has a 127 OPS+ and is outperforming Gimenez’s OPS+ even though he had more opportunities.
For Jays fans, it’s puzzling, because if not now, then when? They are in an intense battle against the Yankees. They sure won the series opener, but lost to the Yanks in the second game. Even then, manager John Schneider keeps rolling out with Andres Gimenez.

Gimenez is hitting just .213 this season. And over his last eight games, he is four for 27 with zero base hits. Even then, he gets locked into the everyday at-bats and batting ninth. This is now angering the insiders and the fans.
Schneider has shown that he can handle both the lefties and the righties, and the Jays have, sadly, though, sheltered him throughout. Now the reason? A secret injury no one knows? Well, one can speculate. And if you are wondering why Gimenez is still out there, the simple answer seems to be money. The Jays spent a lot on this big contract, and these come with long leashes.

However, Sunday’s game seems to be going in the direction that fans want. Because Gimenez is expected to sit, and Davis Schneider will instead finally draw a rare start behind George Springer. It is a big moment not for the Toronto Blue Jays, who need every win to keep that lead, but because Schneider needs this chance to prove himself. To prove that he deserves a spot in the everyday lineup.
Is Bo Bichette done for the season for the Blue Jays?
There is no doubt that the Jays have been one of those elite teams this season. But it hasn’t always gone smoothly for them. They have battled with one major thing, and it is injuries. And the latest scare came when Bo Bichette, one of their cornerstone players, went down in a collision at the plate while playing with the New York Yankees. And it sure did look bad! He limped off before the rain delay and left the fans to wait and watch if this was another nightmare.
What’s your perspective on:
Why is Davis Schneider benched while Gimenez struggles? Is money over performance the new norm?

Thankfully, though, for Toronto, it seems like Lady Luck is by their side. Because Bichette returned to the game and even followed up with an X-ray later to rule out major damage. He was cleared by the medicals, and Keegan Matheson of MLB.com said Bichette was cut up from the play but good to go. So what looked like a season-ending injury for Bichette was just a speed bump.

This is a sigh of relief for the team, because Bo Bichette is not just another player; he has been one of the most consistent bats in the 2025 lineup. He is slashing. 311/.256/.482 and has smashed 18 homers plus a league-leading 43 doubles and 93 RBIs. Not to forget, he can rack up those extra base hits—and that has been a no-brainer for the team’s offense.
Sure, the wear and tear is showing, but it’s been 624 plate appearances. But for now, Toronto can breathe easy knowing he walked away from that crazy collision with just cuts—because that’s a big win.
