The Philadelphia Phillies gave one surprise after another to the MLB followers this season. They unexpectedly clinched playoff berths and then shockingly knocked out heavyweight favorite contenders. At one point, the Phillies even appeared to become World Series champions, though eventually ended as runners-up. Recently, the Phillies have surprised fans by signing shortstop Trea Turner to a lucrative contract.

Turner has got the reputation of being a lightning-fast runner on the field. He is equally famous for his impactful slugging. Moreover, he also happens to be a razor-sharp fielder. Thus, Turner has twice remained the National League’s Stolen Base Leader.

Playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers this past season, Turner smashed 21 home runs, with 100 RBIs, averaging 0.298. Now the Phillies have signed him for an over a decade-long contract. Thus, following a majestic season, the Phillies continue to stack up their roster. However, the fans have expressed mixed opinions about the contract.

What did the MLB fans have to say about the Philadelphia Phillies’ latest recruit?

Trea Turner has thus recently signed up a whopping $300 million worth of contract for an 11-year term. The deal includes a full no-trade clause and no deferred money. It is the 10th $300 million-plus contract in MLB franchise history so far. Also, Turner is now the fourth shortstop to have reached that threshold.

One fan replied by quoting, “Wow! He is a perfect fit for Philly, but damn…11 years!”

Another fan wrote, “The Phillies and the Braves are both better than the Mets at the moment. Pitching is equal but the hitting is far superior away from New York.”

Yet another fan wrote, “Like the Bryce Harper deal. Interesting how the Phillies have done things. This is a heck of a signing!”

While one fan pointed out a valid concern, by writing, “Won’t he lose some of his speed in a few years?”

One more unimpressed fan wrote, “11 years… Wow the planet might not even last that long.”
