Record-breaking vibes in Toronto! The Blue Jays have picked up right where they left off in Game 1, absolutely rolling through the Yankees again in Game 2. Now in the second game, the Yankees went down by 13-7. And leading the charge this time is rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage.

After climbing through four levels of the minors this season, Yesavage has been nothing short of electric. He struck out 11 Yankees through 5⅓ hitless innings, including an incredible stretch of six straight strikeouts. But the best part is probably watching Yesavage’s parents in the stands, soaking in every moment of their son’s breakout performance.

And, of course, having a little fun at the Yankees’ expense while they were at it. Yesavage’s mom, Cheryl, was asked about how she feels about his son’s heroics.

“But I would, I never expected this. And especially against the Yankees. We have been from Philadelphia, and we are the Phillies fans, and the Yankees have not been our top team. This is amazing.” A satisfied voice echoed, especially as her son is humbling the bombers.

But things could’ve been even worse for the Yankees if Yesavage had stayed in the game.

Since he’s on a strict pitch count after throwing a career-high 112 innings this season between the majors and minors, the Jays pulled him in the fifth inning with one out. However, that’s not before the Rogers Centre crowd gave him a roaring ovation as he walked off, with Toronto up 12-0.

And no one was more relieved than the Yankees. They finally got their first hit in the sixth when Aaron Judge singled with two outs. Cody Bellinger followed that up with a two-run homer off Justin Bruihl, at least sparing New York the embarrassment of being shut out in a playoff game.

Trey Yesavage is on a record-breaking run

We might’ve just witnessed the birth of a future superstar in Game 2 of the ALDS. The 22-year-old with only a handful of big-league games under his belt had the mighty Yankees completely bewildered. We have witnessed how the highest-scoring offense in baseball looked helpless against a kid whose fastball exploded through the zone!

Trey Yesavage even made a few new records.

Over 5 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball, he racked up 11 strikeouts, setting a new Blue Jays postseason record for punchouts in a game (the previous mark was eight). Moreover, at just 22 years, he became the second-youngest pitcher ever to record double-digit strikeouts in a playoff outing. He’s now behind only John Candelaria, who struck out 14 batters in the 1975 NLCS at age 21.

Even more impressive, his 10 strikeouts through the first four innings tied the postseason record set by Patrick Corbin in 2019.

And all of this came only in his fourth career MLB appearance. Whether or not the Blue Jays make a deep postseason run, it’s already clear they’ve found a prized gem. A pitcher who could soon become the face of their rotation and a cornerstone of the franchise.
