A day before, the Minnesota Twins had everything well sorted and were on their way to a win against the Baltimore Orioles. But all of a sudden, something occurred that sent chills among the players in the camp. What was supposed to be a fun-filled victory for the Twins quickly turned into a major concern after their shortstop and outfielder collided during the Thursday game. Now Twins ace has dropped a major update on the teammates that may be concerning news for the team as well as the fans. So, what’s the scene that unfolded during the game?

The Minnesota Twins were already having some bad luck in the dominant AL Central, but it took a major hit on their winning the division on Thursday. They went 24-20 but placed in fourth place, just above the Chicago White Sox. In the third inning of the game at Oriole Park, Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton attempted to field the ball that was hit by Orioles batsman Cedric Mullins. As the ball drifted towards center field, Correa went after it, and Buston also charged behind him. To avoid the collision, Correa allowed Buston to make the catch, but unfortunately, their heads collided.

After a thorough examination by the coaches, All-Star Correa had his head snapped forward in the most uncomfortable way possible, but Buxton was able to continue playing. However, the Twins ace, Chris Paddack, who led the team to their eleventh consecutive win—all thanks to his seven innings without any scores—shedding light on the matter, said, “You got that scary play that happened with Buck and Los — hate seeing that. Hope that they can get right over the next couple of days as they’re in the concussion protocol. But you got Kody Clemens, who played three or four positions today.”

Stressing the incident, Chris Paddack sympathized with the collision and further said, “You got Ty France that’s coming into the game. You’ve got Jonah Bride that’s coming into the game. So we went to battle today, and there were a lot of people that stepped up.” Well, honestly, Paddack has a point.

It was indeed a scary situation that it took around six to seven things to get things sorted. But once Carlos walked off himself, the Twins’ defensive lineup underwent some changes. Jonah Bride was assigned to play first, while Kody Clemens moved to second base. Brooks Lee moved to shortstop while Willi Castro managed to take care of the outfield position.

So, all in all, every player on the team stepped up in the hour of need and fortunately, the Minnesota Twins won 4-0 against the Baltimore Orioles. However, it’s Byron Buxton who’s been the unluckiest in this case and the injury also casts a dark shadow on his career as well as on the team.

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Twins survive without their cornerstones, Correa and Buxton, or is their season doomed?

What lies ahead for the Twins ahead of the collision impact?

Well, it cannot be denied that the Minnesota Twins will be missing both Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa from the lineup. Given that Buxton is one of the best defensive players with excellent skills and boasts high energy on the field, while Correa is known for his leadership skills, both remain the cornerstones of the Twins’ strategy.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time they got injured. There were plenty of instances of past injuries. While Buxton’s career has been cut short due to multiple injuries that plagued him, Correa also had injuries in the form of plantar fasciitis, which also affected his performance in 2024 majorly. Interestingly, the collision occurred just a few moments after Buxton managed to hit his 143rd homer, allowing him to tie with legendary Twins figure Joe Mauer. But now his next milestone seems to have been overshadowed by the injury.

Manager Rocco Baldelli has a task at hand while we all wait for the injury updates, as there has been no official confirmation yet. This involves making the necessary lineup adjustments in case the two players take longer to return to the mound, depending on their current health status.
