The Los Angeles Dodgers have suffered yet another blow to their starting rotation. With Tony Gonsolin beginning the season on the injured list, the troubles only seem to grow. With Michael Grove, Michael Pepiot, and Walker Buehler also missing in action, the Dodgers have been relying on relievers. Now, yet another young player is headed to the IL.

Dustin May has been an asset for the LA team ever since they picked him in the 2016 MLB Draft. In 2020, May was called up to pitch on Opening Day after Clayton Kershaw hurt his back. This made him the youngest pitcher in the franchise to ever do so since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981. While he had to miss most of the 2021 and 2022 seasons because of Tommy John surgery, 2023 started out extremely well. However, at the recent Dodgers vs Minnesota Twins game, May exited the game after just one inning, leaving fans concerned.

Dustin May is headed to the IL with a right flexor pronator strain
Injuries are a part of any athlete’s life but they become bothersome when they happen repeatedly. Baseball fans are concerned about how this latest one is going to affect the Dodgers. FOX Sports MLB recently announced on Twitter that May is officially headed to the IL with a right flexor pronator strain. Although the Dodgers ended up winning 7-3 against the Twins, this news brought down the celebrations a notch.

Team manager Dave Roberts has given an estimated timeline of at least a month that the young player will be out. Talking to MLB.com, he said, “Coming out of his last start, he felt that there was just normal soreness like any starting pitcher has. And obviously, he felt good enough to make the start. And then after that first inning, the velocity wasn’t there and I saw him kind of moving his hand and those are the signs that something’s not right.”
