Not much has changed for Derek Jeter post-retirement. The star shortstop made the headlines then and continues to do so today. The Monument Park and Hall of Fame member made his MLB and Yankee debut in 1995. Since then, he appeared on 14 All-Star teams and won five Silver Slugger and Golden Glove awards. Most importantly, the champion won five World Championship rings.

However, only one-half of his fame came from his performance on the field. The other half was a result of the attitude he carried and the respect he earned all across. While he was a New Yorker, his admirers stood all across North America. And even after retirement, he’s maintained this persona.

Last evening, UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman reached to his Instagram with a story, tagging Derek Jeter, Wayne Gretzky, Misty Copeland, and performance apparel brand Greatness Wins. As the story continued, he could be seen opening a package sent by the three athletes from the clothes brand Greatness Wins.

In the story, Usman said, “Thank you for this package. I can’t wait to try on these outfits. The name is perfect.”

After his retirement, the Yankee front office waited eight whole years before they allowed Jeter to claim the captaincy band. Jeter captained the Yanks for 11 years until 2014, and who doesn’t remember his heartwarming and emotional retirement speech?

Moving on, since Jeter’s retirement, the Yanks haven’t found a suitable replacement and hence; the seat remains empty. Brian Cashman while talking about Jeter fitting the role well, once asserted, “Derek wore it so well for so long. I wouldn’t give up another captain’s title to anyone else.”
