Coincidences in baseball aren’t all that rare. There are several occasions where statistics line up for the fans to enjoy, but occasionally they repeat across generations. And even fewer times do they repeat in the same family. But what are sports, if not unpredictable? Vladimir Guerrero Jr. comes from a line of impressive baseball performances, and if the stats are anything to go by, he is already at least as good as his old man, if not better.

Vladimir Guerrero Sr. is a decorated MLB player himself. With nine All-Star seasons under his belt, both with the Montreal Expos and then with the LA Angels, he can count himself amongst the stars of MLB. And his son seems not only to be following in his footsteps but almost replicating his path. In a statistic that perhaps very few expected, the father and son duo have almost identical performance records in the games they have played so far.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr shares an identical record with his father

Vlad Guerrero Jr. is a talismanic player for the Toronto Blue Jays. Finishing second only to Shohei Ohtani in the race for the 2021 AL MVP Guerrero Jr. is rocking up some impressive numbers. Further, the comparisons with his father are getting clearer with every passing day.

With both players turning out for Canadian sides, they have virtually the same numbers at the moment. While Guerrero Sr, playing for the Montreal Expos, had 87 home runs and an OBP of .363 in 403 MLB games played, Guerrero Jr., at the moment, has the same numbers for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The father-son duo has been one of the chief conversation topics in MLB and was in contention to be featured, as cover art for ‘The Show 2022’. However, they were pipped to the post by Shohei Ohtani.

Toronto Blue Jays – season so far

The Blue Jays have had a perfectly fair season until now, but they will need some performances if they want to push for the division title. With the New York Yankees by far and away from showing themselves as the best team in the AL East with 45 wins, the Blue Jays are nine games behind the division leaders.

With much of the season yet to be played, nothing is written in stone. But the fact remains that if the Blue Jays want to stand there with the rest as contenders for their division, they will need to improve their record quickly.

It may no longer be enough for Jr. to match Vlad Guerrero Sr.’s record. It could be time that he aims to go past it. Especially if the Blue Jays are going to make a push for the divisional title.
