The baseball world is slowly getting into its regular rhythm as Opening Day comes ever closer. The regular season will start back up after an exciting off-season and an exhilarating tournament – the World Baseball Classic. Players from all over the world proudly represented their countries. Baseball fans were treated to some amazing displays by old-timers and newcomers alike. One team that stole everyone’s hearts was the Czech Republic, who left even Shohei Ohtani impressed.
The country made its WBC debut this year and while it didn’t make it too far in the tournament; it finished fourth in Pool C. That means the team will get a chance to come back and play again next year. Though talented, the unique thing about the Czech team was its players. They were just regular people with a love for baseball, not full-time players! And now that the WBC is over, the team had a different sort of homecoming than the rest of the countries.

Teacher by day, baseball player by night. Or neurosurgeon by day, a manager by night. Sounds like the plot of a vigilante movie turned on its head. And yet, these are exactly the kind of people that played for the Czech team. Now that it’s all over and done with, everyone is heading back to what they did before the game. While players like Lars Nootbaar, Trea Turner, Ohtani, etc., head back to their teams in the MLB, things are a little different for the European country.

Even Shohei Ohtani was impressed by the Czech team
