The 2023 American League Division Series has begun. In a surprising upset, the Texas Rangers have won game one against the Houston Astros. The two teams battled it out fiercely throughout the regular season, with Houston taking more wins. Although September ultimately ended with an exact 90-72 record for both, the Astros topped the division. Fans expected a similar outcome at the ALDS but a Texas senator may have jinxed it.

Republican Ted Cruz has been serving as a junior United States senator since 2013 but has received equal dislike as love. An avid baseball fan, he often shows up at Astros games in support of the orange team. When the club won the 2022 World Series, Cruz even partook in the parade on a military vehicle. But amid heavy booing, a fan threw an unopened beer can at him. Yesterday, he was once again present for the Astros.

Ted Cruz – Bad Luck Charm for the Houston Astros?

The Rangers have snuck in as a surprisingly strong team in the postseason, continuing their undefeated reign. While it was expected that Houston would break this streak in the Division Series, Texas has established an early lead. Many fear it was because of Ted Cruz’s presence, who cast a dark shadow on his team.

Attending the game with his daughter, the senator could be seen in a bright orange shirt with the Astros logo. Catherine Cruz also donned a team jersey, both smiling at the camera. However, it was the second time that the reigning World Series champs lost a game with him in the audience this year, the first incident having happened at a Twins match-up.

It was perhaps the man accidentally photobombing Cruz at the back that showed the crowd’s true feelings toward their senator. If there is one thing Houston is united in, it’s their dislike of Ted Cruz. Last year’s can-throwing incident wasn’t a lone occurrence, he also received a rude welcome at Yankee Stadium last year as well. At this latest post, social media was once again aflame with hatred.

Baseball Fans United in Their Hatred for Cruz

The man who threw a beer can at last year’s parade did not receive any strict charges, although he was arrested. Cruz did not need medical attention, and the man stated his reason for chucking beer at him to be that he wanted the senator to take a drink.
