While the MLB season under the sun has got into wraps, a San Diego Padres’ star is setting out on a course to create a world record. Away from the heat and warmth of the summer, the Padres pitcher has taken an icy-cold winter trip. That player happens to be none other than Joe Musgrove. And he is on a trip to Antarctica for a special cause.
Musgrove is on his Antarctica trip with the Challenged Athletes Foundation. And he will be celebrating his birthday with a milestone. His birthday is on December 4th, and he will thus be throwing the fastest pitch in Antarctica. However, the Padres ace will not just be doing so for his birthday celebration, but also to benefit a foundation.

Musgrove has been famously mentoring young upcoming athletes with physical disabilities. So he will be utilizing the special trip to raise awareness among the community. Joining him are three physically challenged athletes, namely, Landis Sims, Roderick Sewell, and Justin Phongsavanh. The heroic efforts of Musgrove have won over the hearts of the MLB community, in particular.
San Diego Padres star makes a mark with a humanitarian move:
The Padres ace Joe Musgrove has already developed a strong bonding with Landis Sims. A varsity baseball player, Sims was born without hands and feet. On the other hand, Roderick Sewell is a double above-knee amputee who won the Ironman World Championship. Meanwhile, Justin Phongsavanh recently won a bronze medal in the Tokyo Paralympic Games.
Speaking about the trip, Musgrove said, “Yeah it’s quite the change, but as we talked about it a little bit. It was kind of a rough stretch getting here, but it was exactly the experience everyone wanted. It took a lot to get this done. We are very excited about it, I think we only get a limited amount of throws, so without hurting myself I am going to see how high we can get it and still be accurate.”

MLB insider Annie Heilbrunn shared the news on her Twitter account, quoting, “Can’t help but tweet this today. This is why Joe Musgrove went to Antarctica. This is what it’s about — Landis, and several others from CA Foundation, getting this opportunity. (Joe doesn’t want this attention, but I can’t resist. It’s just too cool.)”
