It feels like this World Series is determined to give us moments to remember, no matter who ends up taking the trophy. But the highlight so far came in the third inning, when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. launched a two-run homer off Shohei Ohtani. And while the homer itself was impressive, what really stole the spotlight was Guerrero channeling his inner Babe Ruth.

Guess what, he’s bringing a touch of 1932 magic right into the 2025 World Series! At least, MLB insider Mitch Bannon feels so.

“Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just did an accidental Babe Ruth… The Blue Jays’ first baseman pointed to the outfield (to signal to Shohei Ohtani that a ball boy was grabbing a ball that had fallen onto the field). Three pitches later, Guerrero launched a 2-run HR. Jays up 2-1,” Bannon shared via X.

For baby boomers, it might be an old memory to dig up, but Babe Ruth’s legendary “called shot” in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series between the Yankees and Cubs is etched in baseball history.

Reportedly, in that fifth inning, with the score tied and Chicago fans heckling him, Ruth took a couple of strikes from pitcher Charlie Root, then seemed to point toward center field. And sure enough, the very next pitch sailed over the fence in that exact direction.

Fast forward to today, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just gave us a profound deja vu moment…

In the third inning, Guerrero appeared to gesture toward the outfield, maybe hinting at what was coming. And three pitches later, he delivered, sending the ball flying beyond the fence. So, coincidence or not, the resemblance to Ruth’s iconic moment is downright eerie!

Just when the Dodgers are breaking a few milestones courtesy of Shohei Ohtani, the Blue Jays got their own Guerrero. Notably, with his home run, Guerrero is now the Blue Jays’ all-time postseason leader with seven! And at this stage, the only way to match Ohtani’s fire might be to bring some fire of their own, and who better to do that than Vladimir Guerrero Jr.?

Remember the chaos earlier this year when the Blue Jays handed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. that massive $500 million extension? MLB insider Jim Bowden even said, “At the end of the day, the Blue Jays had no choice but to grossly overpay to sign Guerrero.” Well, day by day, Guerrero is proving that statement wrong — especially now that the postseason spotlight is on.

He’s never been more crucial to Toronto’s lineup than he is right now, notably after George Springer exited Game 3 with right-side discomfort and missed Game 4’s start. And what a postseason it’s been for Guerrero!!!

After a few quiet outings, just one hit across Game 4 of the ALDS and the first two games of the ALCS, he’s caught fire. He launched his fourth homer of the postseason in Game 3, added another in Game 4, and yet another in Game 6.
