Shohei Ohtani is doing everything he can to uplift the LA Angels from their disastrous run in the current season. He has been playing as a one-man army for the Angels. If Ohtani plays well, the Angels sleep well. It has been the story of the American League side for the last couple of years.

Notably, the Angels got a blazing start to the 2022 MLB season, but they failed to capitalize on their start. The reason? The Angels are too much dependent on certain players. Though Ohtani and Trout can single-handedly win games, they will not do it in every other game.

Despite the Angels going through a rough phase, the Angels’ two-way phenom always finds a reason to bring smiles to the fans. Known for his humbleness and down-to-earth nature, Shohei Ohtani shared a hilarious moment with an on-field umpire while playing against the Seattle Mariners.

Shohei Ohtani was just being kind to the umpire

During an ongoing series between the Seattle Mariners and LA Angels, Ohtani was playing as a starter for his team. When Ohtani was pitching against the Mariners, one of the on-field umpires checked his hands if he was using any illegal substances.

But Ohtani was Ohtani. He thought that the umpire wanted to shake his hands. The video of the same is doing rounds on the internet.

MLB analyst Ben Verlander shared the video on Twitter and described the incident. He tweeted, “Shohei Ohtani thought the umpire just wanted to shake his hand when he was actually trying to do a substance check.”

Talking about the game, Ohtani continued his excellent form from the mound. He remained hitless in six innings against the Mariners, while Mike Trout also smacked two home runs to help the Angels get back on the winning track.

Can Ohtani retain his AL MVP?

As things stand, it looks difficult for Shohei Ohtani to win the American League MVP again this year. Though He has been brilliant for the Angels in 2022, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees is playing on a different level.
