Some baseball stories last a lifetime. MLB fans witness teams playing daily, but only a few regular season games end up with history-making moments. The recent New York Yankees vs. the Colorado Rockies series finale had one such moment.

The Rockies are currently in last place in the NL West with 36-58, and while the Yankees have been faring a bit better at 50-44, Sunday night’s game was not fun to witness for Bronx fans. The struggling franchise has been through a rollercoaster this year, but it is in a downward spiral. And their latest game at Coors Field seemed to have an anticlimactic ending.

Announcer Seemingly Jinxes New York Yankees Win
The game was in its 11th inning when Alan Trejo smashed a home run against the Yankees’ Ron Marinaccio, leading to an 8-7 victory. Coors Field had been sold out all three days, with some fans chanting, “Let’s go Yankees!” But Trejo’s walk-off game-winning homer silenced all except Rockies fans.

The interesting thing was, just moments before the 27-year-old smashed the homer, a Yankees announcer made an interesting point.

Trejo, who has been bouncing between MLB and the minor leagues for the past three seasons, was yet to hit a homer in 2023. Not moments after the broadcaster said it, Trejo smashed the ball, watching its trajectory before flipping his bat. What a jinx for the Bronx Bombers.

“This is like a storybook ending, right?” Trejo told The Denver Post. “This is a walk-off against the Yankees, and that’s something I’m going to talk about for the rest of my life. And it was such a good game, back-and-forth, so it made it even more special.”
The Moment Left Baseball Fans Splitting Their Sides
It was undoubtedly a hilarious moment for Rockies fans and baseball lovers in general. To many, the Yankees’ storied history seems over-hyped and they couldn’t help but find the situation funny.
