The New York Yankees have beaten the Boston Red Sox again. In fact, they didn’t just beat the Red Sox; they dominated them, scoring 18 runs and sweeping the Wild Card Series. And if this is how the Yankees are going to play, their 16-year drought might finally be coming to an end.

After the Wild Card Series win, Aaron Boone said in an interview, “We played great baseball, and you know if we play like that, we can beat anybody.”
The Yankees had not only taken control of the game but had taken the whole Wild Card Series before Boston could mount a comeback, and Game 2 showed just how difficult beating New York has become. The Yankees beat Boston 9-2 and swept the Wild Card Series 2-0, outscoring Boston 18-2 across the two games.
Max Fried controlled the game from the mound, while the offense pulled away from the Red Sox. Fried allowed only 1 run across 6 innings, giving New York another steady start. Luis García Jr. opened the scoring with a fourth-inning homer against Sonny Gray. Cody Bellinger then delivered a three-run homer, handing the game to New York.
But Game 2 was not the first time Boston struggled against everything New York threw.
Cam Schlittler dominated Game 1, allowing two hits across 6.1 scoreless innings. He also struck out 10 hitters while throwing a career-high 117 pitches against Boston. Ben Rice answered with 2 homers and 6 RBIs, including a grand slam.
The Yankees also kept getting important contributions from players Boston could not afford to overlook. In his postseason debut, Lombard collected 3 hits, 2 runs, and his first playoff RBI. Austin Wells and Ryan McMahon also drove in runs. That depth proved crucial with Aaron Judge sidelined for the series.
The Yankees even rotated players: Anthony Volpe started Game 1, while Jazz Chisholm Jr. returned for Game 2. With Judge unavailable, those contributions gave Boone more ways to open the offense.
Now, Tampa Bay waits as the Yankees move into the ALDS with momentum behind them. The Rays will bring a different challenge and have the upper hand against the Yankees (7-6) in the regular season, but this is the postseason, and the Yankees look ready to end their 16-year drought.
CC Sabathia holds nothing back after the Yankees crushed Boston
The Yankees just had one of the most dominant Wild Card Series wins over the Red Sox. The Red Sox fell short in almost every part of the game, from in-game management to the smallest of decisions during play, and Yankees fans made sure that Boston knew how bad it was.
That victory quickly gave former Yankees plenty of reasons to enjoy Boston’s elimination. Yankees legend CC Sabathia did not miss the opportunity, posting several messages aimed at Boston. After the final out, Sabathia shared an image showing a Boston fan with a paper bag. The celebration continued online as New York fans enjoyed watching their rivals leave October early.
Josh Hart was also following closely, and one particular decision immediately caught his attention. Boston intentionally walked Ben Rice, choosing instead to face Cody Bellinger with 2 outs.
Hart reacted by writing, “YOU WANTED TO WALK RICE TO GET TO BELLI?! BOSTON YOU DUMB AS HELL!!!”
Meanwhile, Bellinger answered that decision by launching a 3-run homer, pushing New York’s lead to 8-1. The 31-year-old finished with 4 RBIs.
Boston had managed only 3 hits against Fried, leaving little room for another comeback.
With the final out, New York’s celebration naturally spilled beyond the players and into the city. Even celebrities like Ben Stiller joined the reaction and wrote, “YANKEES.”
Now, the Yankees face another challenge beginning Saturday.
