For any baseball player, it is their dream to win the World Series title with their team. And A-Rod was no different. Winning the World Series with the New York Yankees will always be the biggest highlight of his professional career.

Though winning the World Series title is no joke for any team, it requires a lot of dedication and hard work towards the game. However, this was not the case for the Yankees team in the 2009 season. In A-Rod’s words, they won the title after getting drunk a day before the season-defining game.

It might surprise many baseball fans. But per A-Rod, he had super fun before playing the most important game of the season. Talking to Jimmy Fallon in 2019, A-Rod revealed he went to Koreatown and got drunk on the night of Game 6 of the World Series.
“It was such an amazing time. Because, winning a championship in New York, there is really nothing like it,” A-Rod said. “But I think one of the big keys was, that Johnny Damon came over from the Red Sox to join the Yankees… I remember he was begging me to go out all year to go out to karaoke in Koreatown… He finally convinced me after we beat the Angels in the ALCS right before the World Series.”

A-Rod also revealed the name of the mastermind who planned it all. It was Johnny Damon who challenged them to go to Koreatown, get bombed, and seal the title on the very next day.

After that Angels game, Damon also convinced A-Rod to go to the Koreatown, that too, a day before the Game-6. And guess what? Both went to Koreatown, and the next day they also won the game.
“Well, we went out, and we got bombed… So, literally, we lose game 5… Now, we are in the World Series, a week later… Game 6, we need one more for the championship. He goes, “Hey Rod, let’s go get bombed again in karaoke.” I said, “Are you crazy?! We play tomorrow… We gotta get to sleep. He goes, “Oh you are so stiff. I am going to Koreatown…And we are going to win the championship. That is exactly what happened the next day,” the Yankees legend added.

Well, this has to be one of the most daring ways to win the World Series title. Because doing such kind of action before a very important day in their career might have cost them big time. But they remained focused on the game and clinched the title after winning the 6th game against the Phillies.
