The Mets continue to struggle as they face off against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 3-game away series. The opener started on a rough note, with a 5-1 loss for the New York-based team. But the result was highlighted by poor fielding. MLB insider Anthony DiComo pointed out the terrible defensive effort via Twitter. He shared a video of one of the easy fly balls that the Mets dropped, conceding runs in the process.
This is about how things are going for the Mets.
It's the second popup with a catch probability of at least 95 percent that the Mets have not caught tonight.

In a Tweet, he said, “This is about how things are going for the Mets. It’s the second popup with a catch probability of at least 95 percent that the Mets have not caught tonight. Phillies 3, Mets 1, bottom six.” It was a truly egregious miscommunication by Tommy Pham and Francisco Lindor. Neither fielder made the effort to catch what was a routine fly ball.

So obvious the Mets have given up. They are just going through the motions and making mistakes because of it. This happens with a veteran team that isn't good.

This poor fielding put the game out of reach for the struggling New York-based franchise. Earlier this year, Mets manager Buck Showalter revealed a possible reason for their struggles. But mistakes have featured front and center in their recent losses.
Pete Alonso cost the Mets dearly in a close game
In the series closer against the Houston Astros, the Mets were in a position to score early runs. It was the first inning, and the bases were loaded. Pete Alonso was up to bat with a chance to get his team some runs. On a 2-2 slider, the star slugger tapped it back to the pitcher on a half swing. This led to the runner on third being out at the home plate. The ball was thrown to first base, but it was not fielded properly. As Alonso made his way to second base, he was called out for running off of the baseline. The error in his running cost the team an extra out and the chance to score early runs. Furthermore, the result was a close 10-8 loss.
