What Is Rangers Star Adolis Garcia’s Nickname? Is It Related to His Ability to Hit Bombs?

What is in a name? This famous line from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet drama fits Texas Rangers star Adolis Garcia perfectly. As the line suggests, there is nothing in a name. But the relationship between baseball players with nicknames is like that of a ball and bat.
There could be a few baseball players who do not have a nickname. But this rule does not apply to the rest. Joe Jackson has ‘Shoeless’, Pablo Sandoval has ‘Kung Fu Panda’, and Shohei Ohtani has ‘Shotime’. All of them acquired their nicknames for their ability, appearance, disability, facial features, and way of playing the game. Now, star player of the World Series, Adolis Garcia, nicknamed ‘el bombi’, has taken center stage.
How was Adolis nicknamed as ‘el bombi’

The Ranger star who has been receiving accolades for his performances in the World Series 2023 has nothing to do with the literal meaning of el bombi. It appears, from a distance or a closeup, that someone linked the player somewhere to making bombs. But that is not true.
Bombi was not very prominent until he displayed his performance in the ALCS Game 7. He was being booed for his name publicly. But the game changed everything for him. His hitting performance that led the team to take a win over the Houston Astros became the greatest in the 64-game history of Game 7s.
But his nickname is not connected to either of the above performances. It was his childhood friend who gave him the name. “He received the nickname from a childhood friend. The name has nothing to do with Garcia’s proficiency to hit bombs, but because his friend thought his head looked like a light bulb,” USA Today said.
“Call what has happened to Texas—and Arizona, should the Diamondbacks flip the Phillies one more time—Bombi’s Law, in honor of José Adolis “El Bombi” García, who was bestowed the childhood nickname by his neighborhood buddies in Cuba. They decided his head was shaped like una bombi, or a light bulb,” USA Today quoted Sports Illustrator to confirm.

Is Garcia’s performance connected with his hitting?
The last two games of Garcia’s have been some of the best. It was Game 7 of the ALCS that paved the way for the Rangers into the World Series. Or Game 1 of the World Series against the D-Becks. His contribution to both games could be on the list of career bests. The last is Game 1 of the World Series. Garcia dramatically finished the game after Corey Seager’s home run extended the inning.
