Stand-up comedian and actor Jerry Seinfeld recently congratulated retired baseball legend, Keith Hernandez. Seinfeld passed on his warm words through a heartfelt video message. As per the latest news, Hall Of Fame inductee Keith Hernandez’s New York Mets jersey is now retired. Notably, the special event took place just a few days ago, during a pre-game ceremony.

Jerry Seinfeld rose to prominence from the popular sitcom series Seinfeld. The show first aired in 1989 and ran for a duration of nine seasons. Many famous personalities made celebrity guest appearances on the show in different segments. One such episode involved retired baseball legend Keith Hernandez, titled ‘Boyfriend’. 

Jerry Seinfeld is notably a big fan of the New York Mets, and his friendly ties with the legendary Keith Hernandez were also visible.

Keith Hernandez- Retiring an iconic New York Mets jersey 

On July 9th, 2022, the New York Mets retired Keith Hernandez’s famous No.17 Jersey. The memorable event took place before the Mets game against Miami Marlins. The Mets defeated Marlins by a 5-4 margin. Hernandez, a broadcaster and former Mets icon, delivered an emotional speech ahead of the proceedings.

Keith Hernandez now becomes the fourth New York Mets player to have his jersey retired. Hernandez joins yet another elite club alongside the likes of Tom Seaver, Mike Piazza, and Jerry Koosman. The significant step taken by the Mets authorities, meant Hernandez’s jersey number, is hereby immortalized. There won’t be any other Mets player to sport the No.17 jersey in the future.

Speaking to the reporters before the event, an emotional Keith Hernandez quoted, “It’s very touching. It’s a good moment.” There on, he traveled to Citi Field, where the crowd eagerly anticipated his arrival. Hernandez added, “I just drove in right now, and I see all the No.17 jerseys out there, which was kind of touching and nice.” Fond nostalgia overwhelmed the 1986 World Series winner.

A heartfelt message with friendly warmth 

Happy with Keith Hernandez’s latest achievement post-retirement, a thoughtful Jerry Seinfeld had hearty compliments to share. Seinfeld created a video message congratulating Hernandez. “I didn’t know how my TV Series was gonna go. When you came on that was a big deal. It was a very very big deal, and it was a big deal to me”, said Seinfeld, in a sort of thankful tone. According to Seinfeld, Hernandez’s appearance on the show was a big boost.
