MLB Pipeline ranks Kyson Witherspoon as the 10th-best draft prospect for 2025, and he is not the only pitcher in his house. Kyson didn’t walk that mound by himself.

Let’s meet his twin brother, Malachi. Malachi Witherspoon, a 20-year-old right-handed pitcher from Oklahoma. He is ranked about 121st in the 2025 MLB Draft. His fastball is in the mid-90s. As of now, he strikes out 11 batters per nine innings this season, which makes him a strong candidate for a Round 3–5 pick.

Who is Kyson Witherspoon’s brother? Meet Malachi Witherspoon.

Malachi Witherspoon’s story starts at Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, Florida, with his brother. There, Malachi started as a catcher before transitioning to pitcher. He went to Northwest Florida State College after high school. And then, in the summer of 2023, both he and Kyson moved to the University of Oklahoma.

Malachi and Kyson Witherspoon have played various sports. From football, hockey, gymnastics, tennis, to baseball. But it was baseball that captured them. While talking about his journey, he mentioned“I could see myself playing baseball a lot longer because it was the sport I had the most fun with.” And he has put him among the best draftable arms.

How the two complemented each other for a path to success

Malachi said of Kyson Witherspoon, “I’m his biggest cheerleader on and off the field, but seeing him pitch on Friday nights [at Oklahoma], it was electric.” “You want that dude in your locker room at all times.” Their friendship goes beyond support. They love to push each other in the batter’s box. Malachi painted the memory that will last forever:

“The last time I remember him getting a hit off me, it was our senior year of high school… Unwritten rule between us: first pitch‑fastball. He took the first‑pitch fastball [and hit it] off the left-centre-field wall. I turned back around and he’s still in the box, pimping the mess out of it.”

That rivalry—real, visceral, and never-ending—has been what has helped them flourish. They’ve switched roles, improved their skills, and pushed each other every step of the way. From Fletcher High to Northwest Florida State JC, Cape Cod, Team USA, and the SEC.

No matter what, you can count on both Witherspoons to make an impact. And when one pitcher strikes out a hitter, his twin is probably the loudest person in the crowd. With the MLB draft coming up, it will be an interesting watch to see where the Witherspoon brothers will land.
