It was meant to be! Manny was a good friend of Yainee’s older brother, Yonder Alonso, who used to be an MLB first baseman when Manny was still a teenager in 2009. Their relationship strengthened through working out, family meals, and time with loved ones. As reported in People, Manny officially met Yainee on a trip to Spain in the winter of 2011.
Manny Machado went right up to Yonder to ask for his blessing. Yonder said, “I told him, ‘Look, as long as you respect her and be there for her,’ …we were friends before, and we’ll be friends afterward.” That vote of confidence sealed the deal. And the family was okay with the romance.
