Selected in the second round of the 2018 MLB draft, Sean Anthony Hjelle is a relief pitcher for the San Francisco Giants. The 28-year-old has a 4.66 ERA across 6 games this season. However, as of late, it isn’t about how he has been performing on the mound. It’s about everything unraveling in his life off the field.
His wife, Caroline Hjelle, has stayed out of the spotlight all these years during Sean’s rise in Major League Baseball. However, it all changed when she posted a TikTok video on Friday. The video has now reached millions as Caroline shared something deeply personal in the most casual way possible.
Over time, Caroline’s TikTok account has screamed that she’s going through single mom struggles. In fact, according to Dylan Svoboda of New York Post, Caroline, in a video on April 8, 2025, revealed that she was “devastated” and also used the word “divorce” as she addressed “finding out all the lies.”

Who is Sean Hjelle’s wife? All you need to know about Carolina Hjelle
Sean Hjelle’s wife, Caroline, has had a relatively low profile in the MLB world. The couple, reportedly, knotted ties in November 2021. But recently, she stunned the baseball world by accusing Sean of having extramarital affairs.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Sean Hjelle's career on the line, or can he bounce back from these serious allegations?
Have an interesting take?
In the viral TikTok clip, Caroline can be seen alongside her kids as she overlays a text that caught everyone off guard. “When my MLB husband abandons us on Mother’s Day a week after… I finally found out about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse so I’ve been raising two boys alone,” the text read.
The caption of the post read, “Yeah, I’ve had to be silent for too long about this.” Caroline also used hashtags: #momlife #divorce #cheating #infidelity #solomom #mlb. Now let that sink in.
Since the post had the word abuse, it prompted the San Francisco Giants to clarify their stance: “We are aware of these serious allegations. We have been in contact with MLB. These types of allegations fall under their jurisdiction and we won’t be commenting further.” So, it is actually that intense.
Apparently in 2015, Major League Baseball created a joint policy with the Players Association. The idea was to handle the domestic violence issues, sexual assault, and child abuse. The policy suggests that the MLB Commissioner’s office is entitled to investigate and dive deep into the case if such allegations are put on the players of this league.
With Caroline’s take on “raising two boys alone” and accusations against Hjelle of subjecting her to abuse, Sean opened up as well. After his latest outing for the Giants’ 3-2 win over the Red Sox on Saturday, he confirmed publicly that he and Caroline had already filed for divorce a year back in Virginia. He refused to make a comment on the current situation though.
“I don’t have an official comment right now,” he said during a media appearance. “I would like to actually talk with my agent, my lawyer. This has been something that’s been going on for over a year now in terms of our relationship and our divorce and our separation and everything,” Sean further added.
The whole situation didn’t go unnoticed by MLB officials.

What happened between them: Know why Sean Hjelle is facing MLB investigation
The Giants, with Major League Baseball, are now 100% involved in this investigation. It’s the words—infidelity and abuse—used by Caroline that made this situation more intense than it already was. After the clip went viral, the Giants quickly addressed it with a brief statement release, confirming that they are “aware of the allegations.”
The manager Bob Melvin addressed it as well, saying, “Sean made us aware of the situation. It’s being handled through Major League Baseball, and at this point, we’re going to respect that process.”

Sean Hjelle hasn’t been suspended just yet. He is eligible to play at the moment. But the league’s policy says that MLB has all the power to suspend a player amidst any active investigation. However, the catch is MLB needs to have credible proof of misconduct. Let’s wait and watch how this story further unfolds.
