Picture this: you’re sitting in the Dodgers’ clubhouse, and someone throws you a curveball question about switching lives with a teammate for a week. Well, you know what most players would do? They’d probably pick someone with a better batting average or maybe someone who doesn’t have to squat behind home plate all day. But Will Smith? The guy went completely off-script with his response about the hypothetical life swap scenario.

When asked which Dodgers teammate he’d want to trade places with for a week, Smith didn’t hesitate for a second. His answer was refreshingly honest and hilariously blunt: “I wouldn’t switch with anybody.” Want to guess what happened next? The catcher’s immediate reaction was pure gold, bursting into laughter with those classic crying-laughing emojis. Even Shohei Ohtani, when posed the same question, gave a more diplomatic response, suggesting “maybe Mookie” and joking about playing bowling instead.

While it may never be found out how the Dodgers players reacted to Smith’s blunt response, his wife, Cara Smith, made her emotions quite clear by posting an Instagram story.

As the clubhouse posted the video on their official Instagram, Cara couldn’t help but share it on her Instagram Story. Seeing her husband’s candid confession, she was left doubled over with laughter as she captioned, “Will 😂🤣😂.”

The couple, who have been married since 2020, clearly share the same sense of humor. Tbh, it makes sense. After watching your husband grind through a 162-game season behind the plate, you’d probably appreciate his contentment with his own life, too.

When Smith hit his towering blast against the Colorado Rockies, the Dodgers took to Instagram to celebrate the big hit, and Cara was quick to share her excitement, demonstrating the consistent pattern of support she’s shown throughout his career milestones.

Dodgers’ clubhouse is full of diplomatic responses

Smith’s blunt honesty stood out even more when compared to his teammates’ more measured responses to the life swap question. While he declared he wouldn’t switch with anybody, other Dodgers players offered more diplomatic takes on the hypothetical scenario.

Clayton Kershaw, for instance, showed his curious side, saying, “Maybe do Yoshi. Yoshi Nobu. I’d go back to Japan just to kind of see a day in the life of Yoshi. I think that’d be pretty awesome.” The veteran pitcher’s response reflected his genuine interest in experiencing different cultures through his teammate’s eyes.

Freddie Freeman wrestled with the obvious choice before settling on it: “It’s easy to say Shohei, but I don’t know if I want to. He’s got a lot going on every day. But I’m going to go… No, I’ll just say Shohei. I want to see what it’s like.” Freeman’s hesitation highlighted the reality of Ohtani’s intense daily routine and media attention.

Perhaps the most telling response came from manager Dave Roberts, who surprisingly echoed Smith’s sentiment but with different reasoning: “It wouldn’t be Shohei because I like going outside in public. I don’t want anyone that has a bunch of young kids where I’m exhausted. I like where Glas is at right now. Nothing tied to him. He’s engaged, travels to Africa. I like that.”

These varied responses created an interesting spectrum of answers, from Kershaw’s cultural curiosity to Freeman’s celebrity fascination, while both Smith and Roberts valued their current situations for different but equally valid reasons.
