The Chicago Cubs eyeing for Pete Alonso

During the offseason, things will probably go upside down for the Mets’ star baseman. While his current team has not given up on him yet, potential suitors emerge in the trade market. According to the Cubs reporter Bruce Levine, “The mumbling out there is the Cubs are going to do everything they can to trade for Pete Alonso from the Mets.” He further continues that the player has one year left in his current contract, so the price will also be steep for him.

Throughout the entire season, the star baseman and the team’s performance went opposite. While the player performed pretty well, the team couldn’t manage to get wins. This has come to a point where David Stearns statement that they  want to have the Polar Bear as the starting first baseman on Opening Day, can’t even stop the rumors. While exploring other options, the Chicago Cubs intention is getting the priority.

Well, the Cubs eyeing Alonso is nothing illogical though. The team lacks the first baseman and Alonso is a great fit for it. Moreover, another insider Jesse Rogers expressed, that the player is also eyeing the team. He stated, “He has surveyed the big-market contending teams and saw that the Cubs don’t have any first basemen. They have a pretty good team and a great market, so I think he wants to come here as much as they want him.”  They can even offer him better value than the Mets. This can probably be a potential threat to Steve Cohen.
