Baseball is a game that has a long history, but as times change, so does the game. From this season onwards, MLB has implemented a lot of new rules that will change the landscape of the game. Due to the new rules, players need to adapt quickly to stay ahead of the curve. One of the most significant changes has been the pitch clock, which is designed to speed up the game and keep things moving.
While the pitch clock does make for a fast-paced game, there are often various downsides to it. In a recent podcast, it had been suggested that players like Derek Jeter, who controlled the pace of the game with their own rhythm, would struggle to adapt to these new rules.

Will Derek Jeter survive the new-age baseball?
In a recent podcast discussion, the hosts tackled the topic of the pitch clock rule and its far-reaching effects on baseball. One name that sprang to host and a former ballplayer, Geoff’s mind was none other than Derek Jeter, the legendary captain of the New York Yankees, who slowed down the pace of the game to suit his own cadence. In their own words, “Derek Jeter wouldn’t survive in this era because he can’t put the hand up to call time out, they’ve eliminated that.”

Recounting what the host said next, the incident is regarding a college game where the batter desperately called for a time-out, but to no avail, and was left at the mercy of the clock.

They then talked about the long-gone leisure and genteel nature of the sport, “Yeah, it is very weird and we talk about discretion, one of my favorite things in baseball, and one of the things that I think sort of goes back to the genteel nature of the sport is when a catcher takes a ball or gets hit and there’s like a little moment where they’re trying to sort of catch their breath and the umpire will just walk out and dust off him in play.”

Seems like it’s safe to say that with the advent of the pitch clock, those days are behind everyone now.
What does the rule entail exactly?
For pitchers, the clock is ticking – quite literally. They have a mere 15 seconds to deliver a pitch, 20 when there’s a runner on a base. It’s a race against time, and any delay could result in a ball being charged. Hitters, on the other hand, have to be super fast to get into the batter’s box. They will have just 8 seconds to make their move once the clock starts or they’ll be hit with a strike.
