Exactly a year ago, Juan Soto etched his name into Yankees playoff history. He had hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the 10th inning off Hunter Gaddis to lift the Yankees towards a potential ALCS clincher against the Cleveland Guardians. With one swing, he led the team to the World Series. It was a moment that finally quenched a fanbase’s thirst for postseason magic not felt since 2009. Now, it’s mostly longtime Yankees fans keeping that memory alive a year later. Though at this point, their obsession with it is starting to look a little over the top.

Even Juan Soto liked a post that celebrated him for a year since the unforgettable swing. Jared Carrabis, host of the Baseball is Dead podcast, also reacted to that post and publicly noted, “Juan Soto never should’ve left the Yankees.”

All of it is almost baffling to the Mets faithful. A loyal Mets fan pointed out on X that it’s pathetic how Yankees fans are acting.

He even pointed out the contrast with how Mets fans handled Jacob deGrom’s 2022 move to the Texas Rangers. It was way more composed in Soto’s comparison.

Despite the Yankees’ 2025 ALDS loss to the Blue Jays, the team looks just finer and more cohesive than Soto’s Mets. While signing with the Mets, he did say, “I think we have the best chance to win here.” And when the Mets didn’t even make it to the October baseball, he admitted, “it was a failure.”

However, Juan Soto’s individual performance with the Mets was even better than his 2024 season. He not only shattered his previous career high in stolen bases, more than tripling it, but he also added a new layer to his game. He finished the season with 40 homers, 38 steals, and a third straight year sporting an OPS over .900.

As Yankees fans look back, Soto’s move to the Mets didn’t really work out for either side in 2025 according to them. Maybe that’d be why his playoff heroics with the Yankees felt a little bittersweet now.

Are Yankees fans still hung up on Juan Soto?

One Mets fan summed up what many metsies agreed with: “This fanbase is pathetic.” When Juan Soto opted to leave the Yankees and sign a contract with the crosstown rival Mets, it felt like the end of the world for Yankees fans.

Outfielders Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham were picked up to fill the hole Soto left and fulfilled their duty very well. Yet, when Soto made his first appearance at Yankees stadium after the move, he was brutally booed. And since then, the feeling hasn’t changed a bit, as it seems.

Another frustrated Mets fan stated, “Every Yankee fan in here is like “ did you make the World Series with degrom??” Yes, bro, please watch baseball games that aren’t Yankee games before you pretend to know anything.” Well, for the record, deGrom won two Cy Youngs and went 3-1 in 4 playoff starts in the 2015 World Series run, holding a 2.88 ERA. Yet, Mets fans insist they never reacted like Yankees fans are doing now.

On that, a Yankees fan fought back on Jacob deGrom’s claim and noted, “Degrom was never on the field enough to make an impact, and when he was, the Mets couldn’t score for him.

It was a nonissue. Soto was impactful on a good Yankees team. The Mets will never see that impact, unfortunately.” Well, even after being a Met, Juan Soto admitted, “I had the best hitter in baseball hitting behind me,” while speaking for Aaron Judge. It served as a reminder of what he had with the Yankees.

Another fan fought back, “Juan would like anything he ever did in any uniform; it’s just who he is. But yeah, it still sucks and hurts. i won’t fake it; it hurt Juan. :/” while Yankees fans are reminiscing about his blast, it’s no fault of his own that the Mets’ 2025 season didn’t go as hoped. The 26 year old’s legacy is just getting started.

However, Mets fans can’t stand the overly sentimental posts about Juan Soto anymore. “What happened to the Yanks fan I used to know…this is beyond lame behavior.” Yankees fans have always tried to justify that Soto’s move to the crosstown rivals is certainly not working for him.

But overall, he definitely lived up to his $51 million price tag with his overall performance, but he did take a big step back in defense. His outs above average (OAA) and arm value dropped from the 17th and 91st percentile in 2024 to just the 1st and 18th this year.
