Yankees fans won’t like this one bit. If you remember, just a day ago, we were talking about how risky it was for the team to let Jazz Chisholm get caught up in that incident with a Blue Jays fan at such a crucial point in the season. But now the worry has shifted, and this time to injuries. Reportedly, Chisholm had to leave Thursday night’s game with not one, but two knee injuries. Bruises on both his left and right knees, and on separate plays.

Now, that’s the last kind of update New York wants right now, with the team battling to hold onto a Wild Card spot and even eyeing the Blue Jays at the top of the AL East. Notably, since arriving from Miami at the trade deadline, Chisholm has been electric. He’s putting up a mix of power and speed that the Yankees haven’t seen in years. Hence, losing him for any stretch would be a huge blow. And the Yankees have to be hoping this ends up being minor.
“Jazz Chisholm Jr. has contusions on both knees, the Yankees announce. Those happened on different plays,” MLB insider Gary Phillips said. Well, Chisholm didn’t make it through Thursday’s game against the Astros.

The footage shows he came up hobbling after tagging out Jose Altuve on a steal attempt at second. On the play, it looked like Altuve’s helmet banged into Chisholm’s knee, and while he managed to finish the inning, he was clearly feeling it.

And after recording the out, Chisholm took a moment to shake it off, then limped a bit as he jogged to the dugout, grabbing at his left knee. He tried to push through and even came up for his next at-bat. But he struck out quickly and was pulled from the game right after. That’s the last thing the Yankees would ask for.
The Yankees’ injury list just keeps on expanding
Apart from Chisholm, the Yankees are yet to get Aaron Judge back to his best. He is still acting as their DH.
Yankees fans are still wondering when they’ll finally see Aaron Judge back in right field, which would let Giancarlo Stanton go back to being the full-time DH. Well, for about a month now, Judge has only been able to hit because of a right flexor strain. Even once he’s cleared to play defense, it’s not clear how often the team will put him out there right away. And as per Aaron Boone, they’ll need to see how Judge’s arm holds up.
Yes, the good news is that Stanton has shown he can handle the outfield here and there. And that gives the Yankees some flexibility as Judge eases back in. Still, it could be a while before fans see Judge as a regular outfielder again.

But for the Yankees, the injury news only gets worse. For instance, top prospect Chase Hampton, who barely pitched in 2024 because of a mysterious arm issue, may end up missing the entire 2025 season. Reportedly, the Yankees never really gave a straight answer on what was wrong; at different times, it was called a shoulder problem, a forearm problem, or even an elbow problem.
Now it looks serious enough to shut him down completely. Add Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s injury history into the mix, and it feels like the Yankees’ health concerns just keep piling up.
