The Yankees’ most-used reliever from 2025 is coming back. As per Jorge Castillo, Aaron Boone’s team is exercising the Yankees club option on Tim Hill. The reliever is coming back on a $3M salary in the next season.

In 2025, Hill made 70 appearances, which is more than any Yankees reliever this season. And the left-hander reliever, identified for his skill to dominate left-handed batsmen, has been a vital piece in the bullpen. However, with the news of Hill, another $5M star’s future with the team has come to an end.

As per Jorge Castillo, “The Yankees aren’t picking up Jonathan Loáisiga’s $5 million club option for the 2026 season, a source tells ESPN.”

Jonathan Loáisiga had his season cut short with the Yankees because of a flexor strain injury in 2025. In this season, the righty posted a 1.48 WHIP, 4.25 ERA, and 25:10 K: BB across 29.2 innings. But because of a back issue, Loaisiga missed most of the final two months of his regular season. Then, after that, he was affected with a flexor strain.

In such a scenario, Hill’s announcement has been quite an enthusiastic one for fans.

Since his arrival in 2024, he has proven to be an elite force on the team by delivering in 105 appearances in the regular season. Hill’s 2.68 ERA and an elite rollover rate of 63.7 percent can not be ignored.

Rivals batted only .231/.276/.363 against him with a .181/.224/.220 slash line from left-handed bats. Plus, he did not allow an earned run in 53 of his 70 appearances. From time to time, Hill has shown his skill to fans.

He secured a win in the Subway Series on 18 May. On June 5, he escaped a bases-loaded jam in a vital moment. Now, it is evident that the management has noticed all these deliveries.

With Loáisiga out of the picture, the Yankees’ focus is now shifted toward strengthening their rotation depth. And that is where an old friend could come back into the frame. 

Yankees eye reunion with former trade piece Michael King

The buzz around Michael King’s potential return is starting to rise higher in the Bronx. According to MLB insider Bryan Hoch, the Yankees are seriously exploring a reunion with Michael King, the key arm they traded to San Diego in the trade exchange for Juan Soto in 2023.

King’s stellar 2024 season, where he posted a 2.95 ERA over 30 starts and 173 2/3 innings,  proved he can handle a starter’s workload. In 2025, too, Michael King had some iconic games. For instance, on April 13, he delivered a complete-game shutout against the Rockies, where the Padres won 6-0.

Plus, his familiarity with the Bronx spotlight makes him a perfect fit for the Yankees’ rotation puzzle. But that doesn’t mean he is without flaws. 

Jim Bowden highlighted on MLB Network radio, “King’s durability is still a question mark, and the Yankees already have enough uncertainty in that department.”

Still, with Gerrit Cole’s recovery timeline uncertain and Carlos Rodón sidelined until mid-2026 after his surgery on the left elbow, Cashman could consider King to be a low-risk and high-reward reunion role.

As the Yankees are trying to reshape their roster, a mix of retention and reunion mirrors a strategic balance. Bringing Hill back in the position and eyeing King’s return reflects Cashman’s intent to perfectly blend reliability with familiarity for a stronger 2026 campaign.
