The Bronx Bombers are stuck in quicksand on offense, and Anthony Volpe, who is hitting just .208, and his 17 errors aren’t helping them. One New York columnist even says that his struggles are “literally k—ing the team.” The Yankees are having a hard time, but a two-time All-Star from the Blue Jays who is about to become a free agent might be the solution the Bronx is looking for.

The player in question is Bo Bichette. This season, he wrote one of baseball’s most interesting comeback stories. He only played 81 games in 2024 and had a terrible batting average of .225/.277/.322. But for context, he was sidelined due to recurring calf strains and a fractured finger that ended his season early. This season? He’s on fire with a .304 average, 16 home runs, 84 RBIs, and a .819 OPS that has caught everyone’s attention, making him a potential target.

Emphasizing exactly that, FanSided’s Rucker Haringey wrote in his column how he can bring a strength to the Yankees roster. “He might not be the pure power hitter that some Yankee fans want to see signed in free agency, but he’s a doubles machine who can help create traffic on the basepaths ahead of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. He projects as an excellent leadoff option for a Yankees team that’s struggled to find a consistent player to fill that role over the past two years.”  It’s simple maths, he doesn’t hit home runs every time he swings, but he does set the tone for the Judge and Stanton in the lineup, which is missing right now.

It’s a great chance for Brian Cashman to move up from Volpe’s problems to Bichette’s proven output. The 27-year-old has the experience of a veteran, and his predicted $200 million price tag shows that he is entering his prime years.

But here’s the million-dollar question: Will Toronto really say goodbye to one of its best players? Mark Shapiro, president of the Blue Jays, made it very clear on MLB Network Radio that “Ross (Atkins) talks about Bo when he makes his off-season plan, and Bo will definitely be a priority and a part of that.” Now that will be an interesting watch! With clubhouses circling Bichette, the front office has to act fast, or they might end up losing him, if not to the Yankees, then to someone else.

Yankees eye Bo Bichette — MLB ranks Braves and Tigers as possible homes

The Yankees aren’t the only team that wants Blue Jays shortstop to be a spark plug. Mark Feinsand, a prominent MLB source, said that Bichette is one of the top five free agents for the 2025–26 offseason. He also mentioned that the Braves and Tigers could be good places for him to play, depending on money and position.

It makes sense for the Braves. The middle infield for Atlanta has been problematic this year, and Ozzie Albies’ future is uncertain. Bichette’s bat would fit perfectly into a lineup that relies on offense and pressure. The team may even move him to second base in the future.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Bo Bichette be the missing piece to reignite the Yankees' offense and save their season?

Have an interesting take?

Feinsand added Detroit to the list of “potential fits,” thus the Tigers have also been quietly suggested as a prospective destination. The Tigers had a remarkable 2025 season, with a lot of All-Stars and the most victories in the AL Central. They may be a low-key but enticing place for a high-contact, middle-infield upgrade.

Now, Shapiro’s “priority” talk needs to turn into action right away since the Yankees, Braves, and Tigers are all interested. If the Blue Jays don’t win this bidding war, where would Bichette be the best fit for his skills?
