We’ve seen plenty of Yankees–Blue Jays rivalry this year, and honestly, it’s been all Toronto. The Jays handled the Yankees pretty well in the regular season, going 8–5, and then completely steamrolled them in the postseason. Still, with shots flying back and forth, like Michael Kay saying the Blue Jays aren’t actually a good team, it’s tough for Yankees fans to imagine Toronto lifting the World Series trophy.

Even former Super Bowl champ Chris Canty weighed in…
While he’s no Blue Jays fan himself, he didn’t hold back from calling out Yankees GM Brian Cashman for how things have gone down with Aaron Judge. And when it comes to the possibility of the Jays winning it all, Canty got some strong, unfiltered thoughts about what the Yankees should do next. That might sound rude, but Canty is not holding up.

“I’m gonna tell you something if that happens as a Yankees fan. I want the timerunners to fire Brian Cashman immediately.” Canty shared some radical words via UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio.
So what’s really going on with Brian Cashman?

Well, Derek Jeter said it all a few weeks ago. “I’m pretty sure [manager Aaron Boone is] not the one that’s calling every move that they make throughout the game.” According to Jeter, the Yankees’ clubhouse feels like Cashman completely runs it, and even Aaron Judge might not have the final say on much.
And Chris Canty seems to agree. He’s put this year’s Yankees collapse squarely on Cashman’s shoulders. And it’s not just him, but MLB insider Neil Keefe has also been calling Cashman out. Keefe pointed to how Cashman felt the need to take on Jeter after his comments, and that just showed how insecure the organization has become.

Cashman’s response? He brushed it off, calling the Jeter’s criticism a “bugaboo!!!”
But the question is, does speaking out against Cashman really change anything? Apparently not, because former Yankees catcher and longtime broadcaster John Flaherty reportedly just lost his job after 20 years, and he’s been one of the more outspoken critics of the team lately.
“I think Flashy, yes, was a little too honest in his assessment of the Yankees in recent seasons for their taste,” Keefe added about Flaherty.

So in Canty’s eyes, it’s clear: the Yankees are Brian Cashman’s show right now, and that needs to end if the team wants to turn things around.
Cashman’s rooting for Aaron Judge is complicating the Yankees scene
Calls to fire Yankees manager Aaron Boone keep getting louder after another frustrating season. But Brian Cashman isn’t joining that chorus. “I think he’s a good manager,” Cashman said, standing firmly behind Boone.

That likely means Boone isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. And despite not winning a World Series since taking over in 2018, he’s under contract through 2027 and looks set to return in 2026.
Cashman and his front-office team also appear safe for now. Well, it is also true that under Cashman and Boone, the Yankees are not as bad as they seem. They have made the playoffs in seven of Boone’s eight seasons, which is a solid record compared to most teams. The problem? No World Series rings since 2009.

So, for many fans, Cashman’s continued support of Boone only fuels frustration. He’s been running the Yankees since 1998, and with the team falling short year after year, patience is wearing thin. For a franchise that built its identity on winning championships, these modern-day Yankees just aren’t measuring up.

Now, as another postseason ends in disappointment, one big question remains: Is it finally time for Hal Steinbrenner to pull the plug on the Brian Cashman era?
