During the third game of the series against the Marlins, when Bumgarner was pitching, the first-base umpire Dan Bellino called him to check the sticky substance in his hand. Even while checking his hand, Bellino kept looking at Bumgarner’s face.

He did not even look at the hands. With this, the Diamondbacks pitcher got furious and involved in a heated conversation with the umpire. Eventually, this led to the ejection of Bumgarner from the game.

Talking about his unfortunate ejection, Bumgarner said that he still has no idea why he got thrown out. “I know why I got thrown out. But you guys have seen the video,” Bumgarner said. “I don’t know if I can say anything that would make the situation better… You guys have all seen it. And you can go back and see it all again, and it’s pretty clear.”

Ultimately, the Diamondbacks won the game 8-7 against the Miami Marlins and swept the three-game series. As per ESPN, if a player caught any sticky substance in their hand will face a 10-day suspension.
