It seems like the Milwaukee Brewers are finally getting back into the groove. All they were expecting was to get something that could help them to put up a fight against the Cleveland Guardians in the finale of the three-game series. Fortunately, they got one in the form of a secret ingredient that added a layer of intensity, according to the Brewers’ young hero. Can you guess the secret sauce that changed the fate of the Brewers?

Well, according to Sal Frelick, they had an emergency meeting that worked like a charm, helping the Brewers to avoid a Guardians sweep. The Milwaukee Brewers had a terrible start in the series, as they were shut out in both the previous games, where they gave away seven runs. Not to forget that they struggled in a similar manner in the previous series as well, where they managed only four runs.

While many believed that the Brewers do not need more meetings; rather, they need to make more hits and get more runs, after their second shutout loss on Tuesday at Progressive Field, they held another emergency meeting. And that worked! Sal Frelick believed that the meeting played a major role in the 9-5 win. “Just the mindset heading into the game was a little more important today. Obviously, you don’t want to get swept. I think when we got to the field today, I knew we were going to put a full nine innings together,Frelick said.

The Brewers’ four shutout losses in a short time period and their ranking 28th in terms of .349 slugging percentage were something to talk about and how things could be rectified. Shedding light on the problem, manager Pat Murphy said, “We were off to such a great start last year and we never had to worry, you know what I mean? I’m just saying we were off and running … and things felt good. These young guys were believing and it was fun.”

And it’s true—everyone stepped up to the occasion, as if the emergency meeting acted as a catalyst. Jake Bauers doubled in an RBI in the second inning and Rhys Hoskins‘ five RBIs further propelled the team towards the win. In the sixth inning, thanks to the valiant efforts of young Sal Frelick, the Brewers managed to complete the sweep against the Guardians. He homered in the fifth inning, finally tying the game, batting at a .271 average, with 10 RBIs across the 41 games he played.

Milwaukee Brewers’ associate manager also came in support of the players. “We have Rhys, and we have Christian Yelich to say things that need to be said. But I think with the next wave of guys coming up, it’s like, ‘It’s OK to speak up. It’s OK to own the moment if you play the game the right way.” And that’s what worked, be it their motivation that got boosted or the talks during the meeting that helped the team to get things right and win the game.

Brewers manager thinks that it is the “confidence” that has the team going

Thanks to the heroics and combined efforts of the team, the Milwaukee Brewers won the game against the Cleveland Guardians. But let’s not forget that their offense is one of the worst in MLB this season. They still probably miss Willy Adames, the leading run getter, who left the team by becoming a free agent, leaving the Brewers with a young core.

As expected, the Brewers were in the middle of the rankings in terms of runs scored, while ranking second from the bottom of the table in terms of average exit velocity and third from the bottom in slugging percentage, too. “When the wind’s blowing real hard, you can’t try to fight it. Sometimes, you have to let it play its course. That doesn’t mean we’re not doing everything we can, but you can’t try to outthink yourself and try to be more than what you really are,” Murphy said.

However, it was also the confidence that had been lacking in the team. They are a considerably young group and it was expected. Jackson Chourio, one of the budding players on the team, managed two hits but also made a mistake in run-scoring in centre field. It’s like the team is happy with what they have and does not want to push for more. However, Pat Murphy is hopeful that the team will make a comeback soon, just like they did earlier, winning the last two NL Central titles.
