Mookie Betts is one of those rare players who is highly athletic and continues to level up with every passing day. While his versatility has always been praiseworthy, part of the reason for it is Betts’ highly functional training. At least, that’s what the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar said in his surprising collaboration with famous YouTuber Bradley Martyn.
The sight of Mookie Betts working out with Martyn stunned the fans. However, they quickly began noting down the knowledge given by the former MVP about his techniques. From continuously strengthening his hips to focusing more on his functional abilities, Betts showed off his amazing skills. However, while fans were in awe, Martyn felt a little “jealous” and made a comment that revealed his feelings.
During the entire video, Betts shared the secrets that make him such a formidable sports player. From baseball to bowling, the superstar excels in multiple sports. According to him, all of this is a result of his training and athleticism. “When I get on the field, I can do whatever, or whatever sport, I can play them all because I can move efficiently. I can just rely on my athletic ability to take me and do everything I need to do,” Betts said. That led to Martyn’s hilarious reply.

Betts’ abilities and quick workout were already impressing Martyn. The YouTuber had little difficulty doing the Dodgers star’s mobility work. As a result, he quipped, “So it’s almost like you’re a cheater.” Betts had a big laugh after listening to it. But later, Martyn noted that Betts’ natural talent helps him excel in sports. And that’s been visible throughout this season. Mookie Betts has almost crossed the level of his own brilliance in 2024. With the star near the top of every list, he might be looking at a historic season.
Mookie Betts’ continuous rise—is history about to be made?
According to Baseball Reference, Betts currently leads the league in runs scored (32), walks (29), and OBP (.451). Interestingly, he’s second only to Shohei Ohtani in total hits (53 to Ohtani’s 54). Mookie Betts hasn’t been this good offensively since his MVP season in 2018. But he might even be on pace to improve on that season’s performance.

The fact that Betts already has 3.3 WAR (the highest in the league) is a rare phenomenon. If the star maintains a similar level throughout the season, he might be looking at a WAR of around 12–13. Rarely has any player ever done something of this type. But what makes it even more special is that this is the first time Betts is playing full-time as a shortstop. How many players immediately start excelling in one of the most difficult positions in baseball? A select few.
