American sports agent Scott Boras’ unique act has taken Steve Cohen by surprise! While the New York Mets have brought back Pete Alonso after much negotiation in the free agency trade, his agent, Scott Boras, has done something unexpected. Cohen made a humorous jab at Boras by asking if he was still there after he stayed silent during a conversation with Alonso. Sounds funny, right?

Before moving on to further discussions, let’s have a look at Pete Alonso’s impressive 2024 postseason, where he posted four home runs at an average of.273,.431 OBP, and.999 OPS. Alonso wasn’t able to find any takers after becoming a free agent, as he sought a long-term contract. However, the Mets finally signed him back for a two-year, $54 million contract. Just a few weeks ago, Pete Alonso’s signing with the Mets seemed unlikely after reaching a stalemate. Even Steve Cohen was found to be in disagreement with Boras as the negotiations over his contract reached a boiling point; however, all’s well that ends well!
Finally, after retaining Alonso, Cohen, and the Mets’ president of baseball operations, David Stearns reached Tampa, Fla., to face Alonso and Boras. On February 17, during the meeting, Steve Cohen said, “David and I flew down to Tampa and had a great conversation over a few hours. And frankly, Pete did all the talking. Scott Boras was there, and Scott didn’t say a freaking word the whole time! And I turned to him. I go, ‘I just want to make sure… you’re still breathing over there!”

Steve Cohen was stunned by the way Scott Boras did not say anything, while Alonso continued with his talks. While the disagreements between them reached a point where there might not be any solution, Cohen managed to keep things under control. Why is it so? Basically, Alonso’s agent Scott Boras dragged the negotiations by continuously seeking a long-term deal for Alonso, whereas Cohen made sure to bridge the gap and get Alonso back into the team. However, Pete Alonso hasn’t lost his chance to make a joke on Cohen!

Pete Alonso takes a hilarious dig at Steve Cohen
Amid the whirlwind of negotiations and disagreements between the New York Mets and the All-Star legend, the Mets have finally signed the polar bear back. While Alonso agreed to the two-year, $54 million contract on February 12, Steve Cohen feels the deal was exhausting, to which Alonso jokingly said, “No, sorry, Steve.” Alonso felt that the deal wasn’t at all complicated, as he enjoyed every moment during the negotiations. But that’s not all!

In 2024, Pete Alonso posted.240/.329/.456 slash line, hitting 34 home runs and scoring 88 runs along with achieving.788 OPS, which was the lowest in his career. While this performance does not justify a player of his caliber, he hopes to make a turnaround by doing his best for the Mets in the upcoming season. However, there’s a chance that he can be back at the negotiation table with the Mets next offseason.
