It’s the Super Bowl season. Multiple stories are running parallel as we speed to February 12. Perhaps the biggest one is the continuing rise of Patrick Mahomes. The superstar is heading into his fourth Super Bowl appearance. With each passing day, the Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback is getting closer to Tom Brady. So is it a surprise that someone compared his impact to that of the 5x World Series champion, Derek Jeter?

Jeter, as a central part of the core four, was the creator of the epic New York Yankees dynasty that had a reign of terror over the league. Lovingly called ‘Captain Clutch’, Jeter had made it a habit to arrive with an impactful performance right when the team needed him the most. It’s this habit of his that experts are now witnessing in the 2x Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes.

The Kansas City Chiefs are getting ready to face the San Francisco 49ers. While the quarterback wasn’t at his usual best in some aspects,  he has always been a game-changer when the stakes are high. This trait is similar to that of Yankees legend Derek Jeter. ESPN’s Dan Graziano noted this fact.

“He (Mahomes) reminds me of Derek Jeter who I always felt was not a player who raised his game in the big moments but a player who kept himself exactly the same in the big moments. Moments that made others play worse or panic. And I think Mahomes’ ability to keep his focus on what’s in front of him and not worry about all that other stuff. I think that is the key part of the reason he’s so successful.”  Graziano explained.

The 2x Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes, has been the central part of the Chiefs ever since his debut. It’s due to his impact that the franchise has been in four of the last five Super Bowls. On the other hand, between 1996 and 2000, Jeter won the World Series 4 times. In 2000, he was the World Series MVP. The Bronx Bombers came close in 2001 as well.

Whether it was his walk-off home runs or a game-changing defensive move, Jeter always proved to be a clutch player. Mahomes would be trying to create the same aura as he’s looking to touch Brady’s record.

Tom Brady in sight for the Chiefs Quarterback

After seven seasons, Brady had 3 Super Bowl rings in 3 appearances. Mahomes is already ahead of him in Super Bowl appearances with 4 and if he leads the Chiefs to victory, he’ll equal the early career record of Brady. Ironically, Mahomes would’ve equaled this record had he not lost to Brady in both of their play-off battles.
