“New York Owns Philly”: Yankees’ Dominant Win Over 2022 World Series Runners-Up

After reaching the World Series through the wild card round, the Philadelphia Phillies turned out to be the only team that managed to beat the Houston Astros in the entire postseason. However, the start of 2023 has told a very different story for the Phillies. Following their opening series sweep to the Rangers, the New York Yankees blew the Phillies in an 8-1 defeat at the Bronx.

And naturally, the Yankees fanbase was never going to let a single Philly ever hear the end of this humiliating defeat.

Set in motion with fantastic pitching and pure power, the Bronx Bombers won the decider game of the three-match series against the Giants to win their Opening Series of 2023. The Phillies, on the other hand, got swept by the Rangers in their Opening Series.

And their poor performance only continued as they arrived in the storied Yankee Stadium to take on the refreshed New York Yankees, who dominated the game with both bat and all. Nestor Cortes Jr., who started the game on the mound, managed to concede the one and only run that the Phillies scored before the relievers took over to throw four scoreless innings.

The offense witnessed Anthony Rizzo’s first-season homer, and Gleyber Torres’ 100th career homer, along with hits from almost everyone in the lineup.

Following a massive seven-run defeat for the Phillies, New Yorkers went all-out to rub the defeat and their streak of losses to their face. Moreover, even Philly fans were disappointed with their team’s performance. As a result, this is how fans reacted:
