It is the time for the greatest of time, the tennis legend, Serena Williams, to bid adieu to her competitive tennis. It may not be happening now, but it is going to happen. 

The countdown has begun for her to evolve from tennis. And she had drawn comparison to the Yankees legend Derek Jeter while walking away in terms of their desires to win.

What happened when Jeter retired?

The Hall of Famer and the Yankees legend, Derek Jeter, retired from his professional baseball career in 2014. He is considered to be one of the greats of his game. And the fanfare he received was commendable. Some were surprised, some shocked, some were proud of him, and many were sad.

He was and still is loved and respected by not only his fans but the media as well. It was hard to see the legend say goodbye.

When is Serena Williams going to retire?

The timer is set for countdown. It will be a shock for everyone, whenever the announcement of her retirement comes.

As per Howard Bryant, “Serena Williams’ “desire to win…it’s in that Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Larry Bird, Martina category where the desire to win forces them to fight through injury. We are witnessing the end of one of the very greatest to ever do this.”  

If one legend can get this much love from fans and everybody around him, then it is yet to wonder what this legend is going to get when Serena retires.

In a first-person essay with Vogue, which comes out in September, she said“​​I’m turning 41 this month, and something’s got to give.” In addition to this, she said, “I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.”

She might have not said the date, but it is clear it is coming. And it will be even hard to say goodbye to her.

How will Serena be keeping herself busy after moving on from her career?

‘The Captain,’ Derek Jeter focused on spending time and growing his family after he got retired. Additionally, he focused on his businesses to keep himself busy. He co-owns a publishing house, and launched a platform for the players to grow, ‘The Player’s Tribune,’ among other things.

Jeter has three daughters, all under the age of 10. With his family, and these businesses to look over, he stays busy.

Just like him, Williams also has plans after evolving away from competitive tennis. She will also be focusing on her family, spending time with the family, and also the business.
