People love watching legends from different sports collide with each other. Whether it’s just for having fun or for them actually being competitive with each other, it’s always a treat to the eye. That’s what happened in the pre-match panel of game 5 of the ongoing World Series. The 23-time gold medalist Michael Phelps had a couple of things to say to David Ortiz. Phelps then issued a surprising challenge for “Big Papi”.

So as Ortiz and the rest of the analysts were discussing Game 5, they were shown a video of Michael Phelps. The Olympic Legend had a special message for “Big Papi”.

Michael Phelps challenges Ortiz for a swimming contest

In a video shown before the game, the “Baltimore Bullet” asked the following 3 questions to Ortiz, challenging him to a swimming contest against him. “What’s up Papi! Michael Phelps here. I got a couple questions for you. Do you know how to swim cuz if not then? we got a pool right here and I got your back. No.2 I want to see you butterfly, that was my best stroke when I was swimming. No.3? if we were to swim 200m how much of a headstart would you need to get a W,” said Phelps.

Big Papi was all ready for it as he immediately said,? “It’s on baby!“. Now suddenly everybody wants to see Big Papi vs Michael Phelps in a swimming pool after the World Series is over.

Although this is not the first time that Ortiz is seen talking about swimming, the last time he said something about being in the water was in 2012. It was not with a human though, as Ortiz had posted a picture of himself with a dolphin then.

Maybe the dolphin knows how good the butterfly stroke of “Big Papi” is. But it’s interesting to see two sporting legends having fun with each other. In the World Series till now, there have been many such instances, like Jeter getting a fashion tip. Nonetheless, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers have had a tense series, so such light-hearted moments are a nice palate cleanser for fans.

The World Series has gifted fans with many memorable moments. From Adolis Garcia’s historic walk-off Home run to Ketel Marte, creating the longest postseason hitting streak, it has had everything. Well, the game 5 too gave an iconic moment. Even though this one is iconic for the wrong reasons. Alek Thomas missing the ball and it rolling under his glove might be an event that will be remembered for a long time.
