The Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez controversy is again heating up. This time, it’s not related to baseball, but it has shifted to basketball. None of these legends plays basketball, but the former is an audience, while the latter has his team playing. Jeter took this chance to rub some salt into A-Rod’s wound.

The WNBA Postseason MVP award is announced, and The New York Liberty’s star player, Breanna Stewart, won it. While the Minnesota Lynx was also hoping to qualify for the postseason, their hope was crashed a few weeks back, upsetting their owner A-Rod. More interestingly, the rival who crashed the Lynx’s hopes, Breanna, won the MVP against them. Despite all these, with other renowned personalities, Captain Clutch congratulated the player for her achievement, raising the controversy.

With Minnesota Lynx’s last season-ending, A-Rod’s WNBA championship dreams were gone, but the Postseason is going on. On Tuesday, The New York Liberty’s Breanna Stewart got the Most Valuable Player award. The MVP winner received heartwarming wishes from legends of the same and other sports fields. It was natural until Jeter was on the list. An Instagram video shows the message the MLB legend conveyed, and that’s made things twisted.

The video showed Jeter with other renowned personalities, like Carmelo Anthony and Mikal Bridges, wishing Breanna all the best and sharing his hope to have the WNBA Championship in New York. Though it is not problematic in normal situations, fans found it rubbing salt to A-Rod as he is directly related to basketball. Also, while the Connecticut Suns closed the playoff doors for the Lynx, Breanna won the MVP against them on Tuesday. So, Captain Clutch’s comments were like pricking his former teammate’s wounds.

This year the WNBA MVP award fight was the most challenging. The closest competitor of Stewart was the Suns’ Alyssa Thomas and Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson. The first two contenders had a close fight where the Liberty Star won with 446 votes. She left Alyssa Thomas behind with 7 votes. She won the MVP for the second time in her career after 2018. However, she is the first Liberty Player to win the award.

The 5x World Series Champion congratulated a rival team member of A-Rod, which drew more attention than the great news. He even wanted to have them in the Championship, too.

Derek Jeter Requests for the WNBA Championship for the New York

During his career, the MLB legend had 5 World Series Championships that he brought for New York. After 2009, neither of the New York Teams won the MLB championship again. So, he wanted this trophy draught to be overcome through the WNBA trophy. This team has never won any championship until now.

According to some sources, the New York Liberty may have chances to win the Championship, though their record is not impressive. They have lost a lot of times in finals.
