Jared Cannonier is a middleweight fighter and is currently #4 in the division. Cannonier lost his last bout against Whittaker in October and has been inactive since then. After the previous fight loss, the American native was about to face the former middleweight champion, Paul Costa, next.

However, the fight never happened, as Paul Costa claimed he was getting paid less, and the promotion should pay him more as a main event fighter. He said he never signed the fight against Jared Cannonier.

Jared Cannonier shared his opinion on the situation in a recent interview. Cannonier said, “I didn’t really you know, I am not gonna trip on it, you know something outside of my power. If the man wants to fight, he will fight if he doesn’t want to fight, um we see how this is, you know, going for him.”

He added, “I’m just happy that I have an opponent. I’m happy Kevin stepped up and I get to get in there and fight man after all this pec tear at the beginning of 2020 and the arm break at the middle-end of 2020 and then not healing at the beginning of 2021 you know, this 2020 decade isn’t starting out too well for me so I’m assuming this is it’s gonna, we’re only gonna go up from there, so I’m ready.”

‘The Killa Gorilla’ seemed happy about returning to the octagon after the injury break. The 16-7  Kelvin Gastelum has stepped in after Costa pulled out from the fight. This is the second time Gastelum is stepping in as a replacement for Costa for the main event.

Here is a preview of the showdown.

Jared Cannonier vs Kelvin Gastelum Fight Preview

The American natives will soon collide inside the octagon on August 21. Kelvin Gastelum is one of the best middleweight fighters in UFC. He has faced some of the many big names in the promotion. However, after facing an enormous loss against Israel Adesanya, Gastelum went on a skid. The 29-year-old is known for putting a hard fight against his opponents.

However, he might face a tough time against Jared Cannonier. ‘The Killa Gorilla’ is 6′ and has a one-inch height advantage over Gastelum. He can hit shoot from range. Cannonier won three of his last four matches via TKO. Several people consider him as the best mixed martial artist in UFC. He has completely recovered from a post-fight injury against Whittaker. So it appears to be a fight that can garner a lot of attention from the fans and either man can steal the show.
