‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ capitalized on this advantage and catapulted himself to the top of the welterweight division. Usman is currently the champion at 170-pounds and on the cusp of making his fifth UFC title defense.
Over the past few months, Usman has added a facet to his game that has made him a force to be reckoned with. Training with Trevor Wittman over the past few months has improved Usman’s striking beyond measure. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is now knocking his opponents out cold more frequently than he did in the past.

In a recent interview with Max Kellerman, Usman shared his thoughts on a fight that he has his eyes set on.
He said, “Well, I’ll be honest with you. I will tell you what will really get the people really going, and it will make more sense. When have you ever seen the two pound-for-pound fighters in the world, in their respective sports, both in their respective primes go at it? Name a time. Who is the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world right now?…. It’s not about money, it is about what gets me out of bed, what gets me scared.”
Kamaru Usman to venture into the world of boxing?
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is under contract with the UFC. This means that any fight outside the promotion would have to receive a green light from Dana White and the UFC brass. A fight against Alvarez would mean big business for all parties involved.
However, the Mexican fighter has never expressed an interest in fighting anyone from the UFC. He is laser-focused on building a legacy in the sport of boxing.

It is also important to keep in mind that as Alvarez and Usman are nowhere as big as Mayweather and McGregor, the UFC might not be too keen on getting the fight done.
