CFFC fighter Khetag Pliev was involved in one of the most gruesome and bizarre injuries in the sport of MMA. The mixed martial artist lost his finger in his bout against Devin Goodale.

At the end of the second round, Pliev went back to his corner and revealed to his team that his finger was missing. The whole situation was odd, but it was understood that the fighter’s ring finger had fallen off.

The situation left the event commentators, John Morgan, and CM Punk baffled. However, they later confirmed the incident. Given the gruesome injury, the fight was stopped with Goodale earning a win. Pliev was rushed to the hospital after his finger was found.

Aaron Bronsteter reported, “They just made a PA announcement at #CFFC94 that they are trying to locate a fighter’s missing finger. It evidently fell off into his glove during the bout and is missing somewhere in the venue.”

“It wasn’t a compound fracture, a break, it wasn’t a dislocation, a break, a laceration. His finger was just gone. It’s gone,” said commentator CM Punk.

The former Olympic wrestler has since undergone treatment, and the doctors have reattached his finger to the rest of his body. He was actually willing to carry on fighting despite having his finger torn off and was indeed unhappy about the contest being stopped.

Both fighters were involved in a lengthy grappling exchange in the second round of the fight. It is still unknown whether that contributed to the injury. Many finger injuries happen in MMA, but to have a finger completely torn off from the body is quite unprecedented.

Dr. Abbasi shared his take on the situation. At first, he thought the finger was completely detached. He believed surgery wouldn’t fix it as all bone, nerves, and vessels were gone. Later, after seeing images of the lower part slightly attached, he changed his take and revealed that surgery might fix it as there are traces of the nerve still there.

Undoubtedly it was one of the rarest injuries in the sport that left viewers stunned and shell-shocked. More details on the shocking sequence of events should come to light sooner rather than later.
