De Ridder is confident that there will be no hindrances in successfully defending his ONE Middleweight World Title at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

“[Abbasov] flows from striking to wrestling pretty easily, but he gets a little overzealous sometimes and gets taken down by much smaller guys,” De Ridder offered.

“He has decent wrestling but gets taken down pretty often. So, I think I’m dominating from start to finish.”

Reinier De Ridder on Kiamrian Abbasov’s striking

The Dutch martial artist did have some kind words for his 28-year-old rival’s striking, but reinstated that it is far from perfect.

“He’s got good hands, fast hands. He’s pretty one-dimensional in his boxing, pretty loose on speed, but makes some mistakes in his footwork,” he added.

Reinier De Ridder has been eager to kickstart the next chapter of his story on the global stage since he scooped Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang’s middleweight and light heavyweight gold in his last two outings.

‘The Dutch Knight’ on his quest to become the first three-division ONE champion

Over the past couple of months, the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist played down a trilogy bout against the Burmese athlete and told the media that he has his eyes on Abbasov’s welterweight crown or Arjan “Singh” Bhullar’s heavyweight strap.

None of that came to fruition, but a victory over Abbasov at middleweight next Friday could see him step down to welterweight and challenge Abbasov there. And if he wins, he’ll complete his quest to become a three-division world champion.

“The Dutch Knight” even has a perfect script on how things will play out at ONE: FULL CIRCLE.

“I think he’ll be a bit hesitant to come in. I’ll hit him with some jabs, front kick him, push him against the fence, push him back, and take him down. I see myself passing the guard pretty easily and getting the side choke at the end of the first or beginning of the second round,” he said.

Only time will tell whether the Breda native can continue his perfect story at the world’s largest martial arts organization. But by the manner of his most recent triumphs, there seems to be no way to stop “The Dutch Knight” from a 15th career win.
