Kingad, who was 14-2 coming into this bout, was coming off a spectacular unanimous decision victory over Wei Xie. Furthermore, ‘The King’ remained unfazed by all the digs taken by his foe and used it as motivation during his training.

Meanwhile, Akhmetov, who was 24-2 coming into this bout, was riding on an amazing 3-fight win streak. Moreover, ‘The Kazakh’ didn’t hold back while berating Kingad’s striking and grappling skills.

Kairat Akhmetov makes a statement at ONE: WINTER WARRIORS II

Kingad landed the first strike of the fight, a low kick. However, Akhmetov immediately grabbed his leg and attempted a successful takedown. ‘The Kazakh’ controlled the majority of the first round through his elite ground game, while ‘The King’ tried getting back up on his feet.

The second round was not much different from the first, with Akhmetov controlling the fight through his grappling. Kingad had his moments in the second half of round three. However, it was Akhmetov who took the last minute of the round.

The bout resulted in Akhmetov claiming a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Kingad.

What’s next for ‘The King’ and ‘The Kazakh’?

Both fighters were top-ranked contenders coming into this bout. Kingad held the #2 position, while Akhmetov held the #4 position in the ONE flyweight rankings

Thus, it is safe to say that the winner will either fight another top-ranked contender or for the title. As Akhmetov won this fight, it will be him who might get a title shot or another top-ranked contender in his next fight.
