Fans witnessed several exciting bouts in the third chapter of the ONE: NEXTGEN series. One such exciting bout was the strawweight MMA clash between Lito Adiwang and Jarred Brooks in the main event at ONE: NEXTGEN III.

Several eyes were on this fight as after Brooks poked fun at Adiwang’s hairdo, what began out as a friendly rivalry grew personal.

Adiwang, who was 13-3 coming into this bout, was riding on a 2-fight win streak. Furthermore, the ‘Thunder Kid’ aimed to claim a highlight-reel fashion finish.

Meanwhile, Brooks, who was 16-2 (1 NC) coming into this bout, was riding on an amazing 3-fight win streak. Moreover, ‘The Monkey God’ warned the Team Lakay fighter about his elite ground game. However, Adiwang remained unfazed.

Jarred Brooks made a statement at ONE: NEXTGEN III

As soon as the bell rang, Brooks wasted no time and made successful takedown attempts in the first minute. Then, the American fighter controlled the majority of the first round through his elite grappling skills. 

In the second round, Brooks lead with strikes to shoot for yet another successful takedown attempt. Then Adiwang somehow got back on his feet. However, the Team Lakay fighter landed an accidental groin strike.

Soon after the mandatory halt, the fight resumed, with Brooks making another successful takedown attempt. Then, the American fighter perfectly executed an arm triangle, resulting in Adiwang tapping out.

The bout resulted in Brooks defeating Adiwang via submission (arm-triangle) in the second round.

What’s next for Adiwang and Brooks?

Given that Adiwang was ranked #5 coming into this fight, the winner was likely to get one step closer to a title shot.

Now, as Brooks won this fight, he will be the one getting a step closer. However, ‘The Monkey God’ will still have to go through at least against one of the top four contenders to secure a title shot.
