ONE Championship fans witnessed several exciting bouts on the opening card of December 2021. One such intriguing bout was the women’s atomweight MMA clash between Ritu Phogat and Stamp Fairtex in the co-main event at ONE: WINTER WARRIORS.

Several eyes were on this fight as it was also the women’s atomweight Grand Prix final. It means the winner between Phogat and Stamp will walk out with a silver belt and a secured shot at the women’s atomweight title. 

Phogat, who was 7-1 coming into this bout, was riding a 3-fight win streak. Furthermore, ‘The Indian Tigress’ is a force to be reckoned with in the ONE women’s atomweight division.

Both fighters started slow, calculating their every move in the first minute of the fight. Then, Phogat went for a takedown attempt, resulting in the bout staying in a corner for the majority of round one. 

While in the corner, Stamp landed a couple of knees. However, the Indian fighter executed a successful takedown in the second half of the first round.

Then in round two, ‘The Indian Tigress’ again executed a perfect takedown. However, the Fairtex representative put Phogat in a deep armbar, resulting in the Indian fighter tapping out.

The bout resulted in Stamp Fairtex defeating Ritu Phogat via submission (armbar) in the second round.

What’s next for ‘The Indian Tigress’ and the Fairtex representative?

As already mentioned above, the winner of this fight was going to secure a shot at the women’s atomweight title. 

Now that Stamp has won this fight, it will be her who will be the next challenger. It means the Fairtex representative will face the current ONE women’s atomweight champion, Angela Lee, in her next bout.

Meanwhile, Phogat will have to go back to the drawing board to figure out what went wrong. Nevertheless, an elite athlete like her won’t need much time to bounce back from this loss and put herself back on the map for a title shot.
