Tanner Boser is set to step inside the Octagon in pursuit of his third straight win in arguably the biggest fight of his career against Andrei Arlovski at UFC Fight Night: Santos vs Texeira.

At just 29 years of age, Tanner has competed in 26 professional bouts. With 19 wins and just 6 losses, ‘The Bulldozer’ could well be the next big thing in the UFC’s heavyweight division.

After an impressive UFC debut with a unanimous decision win over Daniel Spitz, Tanner suffered his first loss inside the UFC Octagon against undefeated Ciryl Gane. However, ‘The Bulldozer’ has bounced back as he racked up multiple victories to his name.

As Boser gears up for his third appearance inside the cage in 2020, let’s take a look at some little-known facts about the Canadian fighter.

Why is Tanner Boser called “The Bulldozer”?

Tanner Boser revealed that his nickname, which has often been a symbol of what a fighter brings inside the cage when he steps in, was proposed to him by his trainer during his fourth MMA bout. The UFC heavyweight fighter said, “Mitch Clark was trying to think of a nickname for me.”

At the time, Clark would tease him by a namesake nickname, ‘Dill Dozer’. Boser added, “I fought my fourth fight, and I won, and my training partner at the time, he goes, ‘bro, you f*****g bulldozed that guy, you should be the Bulldozer.'”

Tanner Boser has carried this nickname for almost a decade now and it is safe to say, it suits him well.

Boser almost left MMA to become a Paramedic

UFC President Dana White has often stated that MMA is not a career, but an opportunity. There have been multiple incidents where fighters have gone through injuries that have halted their careers.

The boss has repeatedly requested the younger fighters to be ready to step inside the Octagon at any given time. This is because he believes that fighters can make complete use of their health and physicality to make a living.

Back in 2016, Boser left MMA after he realized that he was not earning enough from fighting to meet his financial needs. The Bulldozer opted for a course as an Emergency Medical Technician. He hoped to become a paramedic. However, his passion for MMA pulled him back to the cage. Needless to say, Boser’s life changed after that.

He competed in over nine countries around the globe in several promotions. He eventually landed a UFC contract when the company visited Edmonton.

The Bulldozer worked at a s***p club before landing his UFC contract

Tanner Boser worked as a bouncer at a s**** club during his early days. Needless to say, fighting is not something that pays well in the initial years. Initially, the fighter worked four-five days a week to make sure he had an additional source of income.

On The Second Floor podcast. the fighter opened up on his early days in the sport. He said, “I worked at Diamonds, which was a s***p club in Edmonton for like five years. Without that, there’s no way I could have gotten by. The fighting doesn’t pay until way later, you are not making anything.”

While his decision to become a paramedic was short-lived, Boser continues to work in his hometown of Edmonton. This is because he feels that regardless of what one achieves, they must always stick to your roots.

Tanner Boser was directly handed the UFC contract

Dana White’s Contender Series has been the direct ticket for many fighters to realize their dream of competing inside the UFC Octagon. However, the 29-year-old Canadian fighter was directly handed the UFC contract after defending the Unified heavyweight championship at Unified MMA 37 back in May 2019.

He said, “I have been training for a long time. I happened to get signed by the UFC probably because I fight a lot.” It’s hard not to agree with Boser, who is a 26-fight veteran.

“The Bulldozer” has also competed in promotions such as M-1 Global and King of the Cage. The Canadian fighter brings a lot of experience inside the Octagon and will look to cement his position in the heavyweight division with a huge win over the former heavyweight champion at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas.

The Canadian heavyweight is also a fan of Pokemon. You heard that right! ‘The Bulldozer’ usually passes his time playing Pokemon Go! when he is not training. Gaming has become a huge part of everybody’s life, especially during the pandemic and Boser may have gotten some more time to dedicate to his game. He revealed that he has a Mewtwo in his Pokemon line-up.

Boser doesn’t prefer a flashy lifestyle and prefers to keep training most of the time. Either he is working, training for his next fight, or playing Pokemon. Boser’s life is quite simple. His choice of music ranges from contemporary to folklore.
